Mav2u Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 Okay, more questions, Is there a way to transfer an entire MT blogs settings over to another domain name. Basically I have the MT blog setup on the other domain but I want all the settings and blog, comments and everything on the other domain just as it was on the old domain. I see where I can export from my MT blog but I don't really see how you import all the blog entries into the new one. I see the import page but I don't really think it makes much sense. What would be nice is if I could just transfer the MYsql database from the old site to the new one and rename to the current one. Then it would all be good to go, as I've copied all the files over from the old one in the MT folder and that went okay, it's just missing the database info. So, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. Thanks, Mav Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 16, 2003 Posted June 16, 2003 I've transferred MT blogs different ways. You can install MT on the new account and then export the data from one and copy that file into a folder called import in your new MT directory. This way works best if you are wanting to move to a newer version of MT or redo your templates, etc. You can also copy the MT directory from the old site to the MT directory on the new site. Then you backup the MySQL db on the old site and restore it on the new one. You will have to add the user and password on the new site as well. Then you edit the mt.cfg file and it will work fine to reflect the new cgi directory and the new db names (which will change from user1_mtdatabase to user2_mtdatabase). This assumes you install MT into a directory outside your cgi-bin directory. Quote
Mav2u Posted June 16, 2003 Author Posted June 16, 2003 Yeah, basically I set up MT on the new domain, copied all the files from the old one over the new except writing over the cfg. and the db-password.cgi one. Then I exported the files from the old one and imported the text doc into the new one and it all worked. I then just pasted in my templates and Voila! I was done with it. Mav Quote
