Hi. I am trying to setup my forum settings, and I think i am doing everything as I need. But when i try to upload an Avatar it says it needs to be 80x80 pixels, but my avatar is 80x80, then I tried at 75x75, and it still gives the same message. I am including a screenshotof my settings.

Hello,

Hmm, it should still work, but instead just give you a normal red X instead.

If you want to show pictures, you can do what I do which is to get hold of smartors album for phpBB and also find on his website the sitetag BBcode edit which will allow you to host images in your album and have them displayed within posts on your forum

HAHAHAHAHA I will never let this thread die!!! I have more questions!!

:lol2: :)

Okay i want to disable Guests from being able to post, and for the life of me, i cannot find that option. Also... is there some way to upgrade to a more advanced version of phpbb?

Thanks

Go into your Admin Control Panel and go down to the tab that says Forum Admin. Under that click permissions and select the board you don't want a guest to be able to access and click Look Up Forum. On the next screen in the drop down box make sure it's selected to Registered not Public. Once you do that hit submit and guests will have no access to that board.

As far as the "more advanced" phpBB, there is only one phpBB. Some others, myself included (so take my advice with a grain of salt) have moved from phpBB to SMF. It provides a bit more flexibility and control over phpBB, not sure exactly what you mean by "advanced." phpBB is in all rights a fine package, and suits most communities well.

Hello,

I believe CPANEL installs the latest version of phpBB, but there are hundreds of mods over at www.phpBB.com which you can install. Note that if you do install mods, you will need to do a manual upgrade which to be honest, is not that hard to do (I have been doing it ever since 2.0.1 and they are now on 2.0.19!)

There is a new version of phpBB in the pipeworks, over at http://area51.phpbb.com/ but this is only in alpha at present and has yet to go to Beta, but that is all but a few months away we guess. Hence for now, I would stick with the phpBB 2.0.19 and enjoy using it, I love it!

If I update my forum, will all my posts and everything be deleted?

Open templates/your template/overall_header.tpl

Find:

<tr>

<td><a href="{U_INDEX}"><img src="templates/subSilver/images/logo_phpBB.gif" border="0" alt="{L_INDEX}" vspace="1" /></a></td>

<td align="center" width="100%" valign="middle"><span class="maintitle">{SITENAME}</span><br /><span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}<br />  </span>

<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" border="0">

<tr>

- To change where the logo hyperlink goes, edit {U_INDEX}. Replace with http://www.yourtchsite.com. You may also wish to change the {L_INDEX} to reflect the new location. (ex. 'Portal', 'Home', etc.)

You might want to do your members a favor and install "Redirect Anonymous Users to Login" which protects personal information from spambots and people who are not memembers. It redirects people to login when clicking on the memberlist, groups or profiles.

As of right now, I or a spambot can go to your memberlist, get some member emails and spam the heck out of them.

Hello,

Actually what you need is Alien's Guest Module. This is a minor hack to your phpBB which allows annoymous users to browse your forum but prevents them from seeing email addresses and such. A better solution DWD idea but still along the same lines

You don't do it through the admin. You should have controls when reading posts as a moderator to move threads to other areas of your forum.

It's been forever since I've moderated a phpBB board but the moderation controls in Invision are in the post threads themselves.
