Why Is Cpanel Login Random Now?

Recommended Posts

More of a question than anything....

I purchased a hosting package last year about this time and my cpanel login is a logical user name based on my domain name. I just added another hosting package to my account for a different domain and the cpanel login is pretty much random as far as I can tell. Why the change? This new one will be pretty hard to remember.

Thanks,

Kevin

It is for security purposes...to keep yours and everyone else's data on the shared server as secure as it can be. It is much harder for password cracking programs to guess some arbitrary name and password than a logical one. And believe it or not, there are some people who don't have a life and spend all day doing just that!

Personally its annoying. I had to write my login down and put it in my wallet. I can't remember it to save my life.

Yea, it is, but it's less annoying than finding out your account was brute forced compromised.

Why not use a password program like Any Password. Saves usernames AND passwords.

I do both! For the security aspect of things, it's one of the facts of Internet life that I realize I have to live with! :)

ok i will think about it. the random login is really bugging me.

Look at it this way. You are sharing a server with many other users. Would you like it if someone had an easy cpanel login and some unsavory character used that easy login to take over EVERYONE'S web site, including yours?

While it won't prevent a seriously determined (and demented IMO ;)) person from trying to break in, a random username, and password for that matter, will go a long way in helping to keep not only your site, but the entire server secure.

I agree that sometimes it's a pain in the butt to have to remember different usernames/passwords, but I as I said before, it's just an unfortunate fact of Internet life!
