robandcob
When viewing my website on IE, some of my buttons leading to different pages actually pull up a separate widow, so by the time you've looked through a couple of different pages on my site, there's about 6 browser windows open! Some links aren't doing it, some are. I can't find any differences b/t these pages, and I can't find any guidance through FrontPage help. Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?? jnull
Sounds like you have target="_blank" in your href link ... remove that and then see if the problem doesn't go away.
TCH-Andy
Hi, Welcome to the forum I'm not sure where it is in Frontpage, but a link can have a "target". Amongst other valid options you can have; TARGET="_blank" This target will cause the link to always be loaded in a new blank window. This window is not named. TARGET="_self" This target causes the link to always load in the same window the anchor was clicked in. Edit: Jim beat me to it Edited August 4, 2005 by TCH-Andy

robandcob
Thanks for the welcome! Should I be looking for "TARGET" on the original page or the page I'm linking to? When I search "taget" on the HTML screen, these are the only hits I get: Original page: <base target="rtop"> Both pages: <p><!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="banner" S-Rendering S-Orientation B-Include-Home B-Include-Up U-Page S-Target --> </p> <p><!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="children" S-Orientation="horizontal" S-Rendering="graphics" B-Include-Home="TRUE" B-Include-Up="TRUE" U-Page S-Target --> (these two above are for the page banner and the navigation bar I added to both pages - it's a FrontPage generated theme) Can I add a target scripting in there somewhere? I'm so new at this - it's so confusing!!
jnull
When you create the hyperlink in FrontPage, FP opens a window for you to enter your hyperlink information, in this new window is a button that says 'target frame'... click it and set your hyperlink to "page default" from the selections provided. abinidi
Hmmm... I'm wondering if the problem isn't something else. If you have searched your HTML code (on the page that the link is on), and there is no >target="_blank" attribute, then the problem must be elsewhere. What else can you tell us about the site/page? robandcob
Hmmm... I'm wondering if the problem isn't something else. If you have searched your HTML code (on the page that the link is on), and there is no >target="_blank" attribute, then the problem must be elsewhere. What else can you tell us about the site/page? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> When I created the links, it was all automatic - I chose to insert a navigation bar with links to child pages or same level pages or whatever, and FrontPage made all the hyperlinks for me. Here is the scripting for a page that opens the links listed on it into another browser window (see below). My website is robandcob.com - for instance, when you choose "Photos" from the homepage it opens that one okay, but when you choose "2005 Photos" from there, it opens another browser window. To my knowledge, I did nothing differently. Do you see anything here? <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage 4.0"> <meta name="ProgId" content="FrontPage.Editor.Document"> <title>Photos</title> <base target="rtop"> <meta name="Microsoft Theme" content="copy-of-travel 011, default"> </head> <body> <p><!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="banner" S-Rendering S-Orientation B-Include-Home B-Include-Up U-Page S-Target --> </p> <p><!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="children" S-Orientation="horizontal" S-Rendering="graphics" B-Include-Home="TRUE" B-Include-Up="TRUE" U-Page S-Target --> </p> <p><b><font color="#99CC66">2005</font></b> - A selection of pictures from this year</p> <p><b><font color="#99CC66">Previous Years</font></b> - Photos dating back to our wedding in 2001</p> <p><b><font color="#99CC66">Our Critters</font></b> - Meet Orange, Gray, and other fuzzy and scaly critters</p> <p><font color="#99CC66"><b>The Early Years</b></font> - Photos dating back to pre-wedding bliss</p> </body> </html>
robandcob
Do you suggest I scratch the automatically-generated navigation buttons? Maybe I should just create my own links...
jnull
I would certainly go the route of creating your own links, as I've never liked the navigation creation within FrontPage.
jnull
Just a follow-up. I would also recommend you use a photo gallery other than what comes in FrontPage (as it looks like that is the direction of your site - several photo galleries). There are many to choose from, recommendations from which you can get by searching through these forums. I like using: http://spgm.sourceforge.net/ as I have found it is pretty robust and flexible, and the folks who created it are very responsive with any questions. The documentation that comes with it is pretty good too. It does involve having a thumbnail image, and a regular image. Thumbnails work good at 100 px wide, regular images at about 300 to 400. And, the package includes help with even creating those. Worth a look-see.
robandcob
That product looks great! I will check that out for sure. FYI, in creating my own hyperlinks as suggested, I have found where the option is to change the taget frame (I missed it the 324587 other times I looked). If anyone has this problem, right click on the problem page and choose "page properties." Four lines down there's "default target frame" - it looks grayed out (which is why I never saw it), but click the box to the right. This is where you can either pick "same frame" or "new window"... Thanks for everyone's help! I had no idea what frames or tagets were before this!!
