AHH!

I have no idea what I did, I was trying to install Coppermine, and now my website is gone... www.Gale2006.com! What do I do!! I tried republishing from FrontPage and it just says it's done publishing, but I don't see my site.

If I pull up www.Gale2006.com/index.htm... I see what I want my homepage to be, but when I pull up www.Gale2006.com, I just get that blank page!

Oh man... Please help! Thanks!!

Eric

Well I tried... I had to learn how to do this ftp business, and by accident I published it onto the pain public_html... so then I deleted it all, well I think I deleted something I shouldn't have.

Is this bad? Is this fixable?!

There was a blank index.html file in the folder as well as index.htm. As a result the index.html was the default. I removed it and the site is loading fine.

I am so glad you fixed this for poor Eric.

What a stress attack! :) :) :shocking:

You guys are like EMTs. Thanks for your quick help.

I have some folo-up questions:

Is it good to have a blank index.html file in the folder?

Isn't the public_ftp file good for backups?

What is the public_ftp file for anyway?

Thanks,

You went :) but I will answer it.

The public_ftp folder is not for backups. It is an anonymous FTP folder for your site. However anonymous FTP is disabled on the TCH servers.

If it were active you would be able to allow people to upload files to you anonymously as well as offer files to others anonymously.

If you place a blank index.html file in a folder the server will send that to a browser when that folder is accessed. If it happens to be your public_html folder they would not see a home page or anything.

I put a blank page in my image folder  :)

How does having a blank index.html folder in your images folder help?

Does that mean ....I mean....what does that mean.

Does the data on the real index.html folder duplicate itself in the blank one automatically?

I am sure they do not.

Maybe I need to do some reading.

Thanks.

Yes it is just a blank white page.

It keeps the list of images and folder below hidden.

Hello Don,

Thank you for the clarification.

Does this blank index.html page work in any folder in the public_html folder?

I am sure I wouldn't put one directly under public_html or it would block my website..is that right?

Thanks,
