Hi, Just came to TCH from the dreaded featureprice. Problem: When I try to publish/upload my pages through Netscape 7, as I've always done, I keep getting an "Error 530: Unknown Publishing Problem" window.

is it because my domain hasn't propagated? (just switched DNS on Network Solutions yesterday, May 13) This used to work with featureprice; do i need to use an FTP program now? I'm using the password TCH sent in my welcome email, and my own password, but so far nothing works. (is there a tutorial on this? i can't seem to find it).

many thanks in advance...I'd like to get my site back up asap.

Try this page in the help site.

Keep in mind though, if you have not propagated... you will have to use the numerical IP address (216.123.456.789) instead of ftp.******.

P.S. Welcome to the family!

Hi,

DOmains take upto 72hrs to propergate through the net. Sometimes a bit longer depending on the lazyness of the ISP updating itself.

Its best to use your IP address given to you in your starter email.

If you still have problems, let us know

Hi, Scott...thanks for your response!

Sorry to sound so clueless (but then i guess i am--it's been years since i first launched my site). Anyway, when you wrote "if you have not propagated... you will have to use the numerical IP address (216.123.456.789) instead of ftp.******."

did you mean my OWN numerical IP? or literally the one above? I used my own, but i'm not sure i entered it in the right window. in any case, i got the same 530 login incorrect message.

Also...do you know the specific name/URL of the tutorial that would explain this? at this point my brain is getting fried, and nothing on TCH's help page seems to look relevant...

anyhow...thanks so much for your help! one of these days i'll grok it...

all the best, Joan I.

Not sure about Netscape's exact wording but there should be a place requesting the host name (or server, etc). This would be your IP address (I just gave you an example of how it would look; e.g. 216.123.456.789).

You need your Account Name (or login, etc). This would be: yourname.com

Then you would need your password. That is really the only three pieces of information required.

Sorry I can not be more specific... I just do not know the exact windows you are looking at.

Good Luck.

I forgot to add:

You want to load everything in the public_html folder.

This is from TCH's Help Site regarding FTP (the link I gave before):

How to upload your files

After you have signed up with TCH for a web site, and have registered a domain name, you'll be ready to upload your web site.  Your homepage should normally be named index.html or index.htm. This is the page that will show when someone visits http://www.yoursite.com.

Follow the instructions below to learn how to upload your file.

Start your FTP client and click the connect button.

Enter ftp.yoursite.com as the server name.

Use the user name/password provided in your TCH welcome email

Connect and then go to the public_html directory on your web site

Delete or replace the file called index.html

Upload your index.html file and any other files you need to upload.

Disconnect and close the FTP client.

Point your browser to http://www.yoursite.com and view your new home page

In netscape, use

edit > publish site settings

in publishing address put

ftp.mysite.com/public_html/

or

ftp.ip/~user/public_html/

or if you want to use a sub folder

ftp.ip/~user/public_html/foldername/

Hope this is what you wanted

Ok here is the settings, I used Mozzilla (like NS6)

under EDIT > Publishing Site Settings

>publishing address, enter     ip/public_html
           login name                username
           password                  ***********

Hope this helps
