Guest Todd Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Hello, I am a relative newcomer to Total Choice Holsting and web development. I have created a website for my business (Holston River Stained Glass). However, whenever I type in the business name in a basic search engine such as Yahoo!, none of the results include my website. Can someone help me understand why this is and if there is something that can be changed so that search engines begin including my website when its key words are used in the search? Thanks in advance for any advice! Quote
Lianna Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Best advice that i can possibly give is to do a search on this forum for the word: search and posted by user: dsdemmin. I know that sounds funny, but particularly, look for postings from Scott. He's a master of the search engines and his post will be of great interest and value to you! Quote
natimage Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Hi, Todd. A couple of other things you should know: --it can take QUITE some time to get indexed by the search engines like Google. It took me a couple, three months to get indexed. --if you haven't submitted your url to all the search engines, you should do that. --if no one else is linked to your site, you're going to have a hard time getting indexed. These are just some of the base things to know...definately look up Scott's (dsdemmin) posts related to this topic to learn lots more! Also, you should list your website in here so people can check it out and offer pointers to help get listed. Tracy Quote
SEO Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 Thanks for the kind words ladies. I promise that this information (which is very important) will be presented in a more organized and understandable manner for all in the very near future. Quote
natimage Posted May 14, 2003 Posted May 14, 2003 another small note Todd... you can also use meta tags for keywords and description that helps the search engine place your page. I think Google looks at the content more, though! Quote
