stevevan Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 As TCH-Jim could probably tell you, as well as this news story, we've already started. Let's hope it's a QUIET year this year! Us Floridians had more than our fair share of storms. Anyone else want to join in the fun? Quote
Madmanmcp Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 We still haven't got my dad's house fixed from the two he was hit with last year. Wish my sister would just get it done so we can sell it while its still standing! Quote
Deverill Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 And how! Especially for you guys up in "mainland Florida". We skirted a couple here but nothing bad happened to us in the Keys, and I'd like to keep it that way thank-you-very-much. Maybe the hurricanes can go to the antarctic or Iceland for a change! Imagine the creative snow structures that would come of them! (And more importantly, they'd die from the cold - hurricanes really need heat to live.) Here's hoping and praying that this year sees a distinct lack of harm and danger and absolutely no loss of life. After last year everyone needs a break! Quote
curtis Posted June 9, 2005 Posted June 9, 2005 Looks like Tropical Storm Arlene will be in the gulf by tomorrow(06/09). Possible landfall between La. and Florida panhandle. Quote
stevevan Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 Maybe the hurricanes can go to the antarctic or Iceland for a change! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Didn't Thomas say something about how he wanted a change from his weather? Looks like Tropical Storm Arlene will be in the gulf by tomorrow(06/09). Possible landfall between La. and Florida panhandle. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know. <<shudder>> Hopefully all we'll get is a lot of rain. Unlike many other people, the minor damage I had to my roof has already been fixed. So as long as my internet connection holds out, I'll be ok. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Maybe the hurricanes can go to the antarctic or Iceland for a change! Didn't Thomas say something about how he wanted a change from his weather? Warmer weather yes, around 77-86F would be nice. As for hurricanes... You can keep them, thank you, there´s no need to break traditions, just because I want warmer weather. Quote
surefire Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 (edited) I bought new hurricane panels a few weeks ago to the tune of $6000. A drop in the bucket to the alternative, but still... wouldn've loved to spend the money elsewhere. Now I'm biting my nails waiting for them to get installed. Living within view of the Atlantic, plywood just didn't cut it very well last year. Edited June 10, 2005 by surefire Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 That is one reason I am glad we do not have to bother with Mother Nature sending things from the ocean to us. Of course we do have a small problem with fires every year but that is another story. Thomas, you can have some of our warmth. We will be at 46C this weekend, about 115F. If I didn't have to worry about tornado's or hurricanes I would move to a better climate. I guess, on the bright side, we only get to about 50C or 122F in the summer so it could be worse. Quote

stevevan Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 Ahhhhhh! The price to live in each other's paradise! I feel sorry for those people here who still haven't gotten their homes repaired yet from last September! Things have just now started in Pensacola. I'm hoping the power stays on all day so I can keep checking in with my "family". Quote
Deverill Posted June 11, 2005 Posted June 11, 2005 Stay safe, Steve (and others in that area). The outer rain bands briefly took out power here and we had sighted waterspouts (tornados full of water) and it was a long ways off so it could get ugly. Let's hope not! Just take those "over and above" precautions just in case! Quote
stevevan Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 UPDATE: Ivan...oops...Arlene just came ashore directly over Pensacola. Here in Navarre (about 20 miles east) we had brief heavy rain and quite a bit of wind earlier. Now things are still blowing around pretty good with a lot of heavy rain. I'm also part of the local emergency communications team and can report that there are scattered power outages, lines, and trees down. Little more rain and in a few more hours it'll all be done. We're doin okay...relatively speaking! Quote
stevevan Posted June 11, 2005 Author Posted June 11, 2005 Whew! We dodged one again. After Ivan, I will say that most everyone here was VERY prepared. No panic seen at all. Minor power outages, very minor structural damage, a little flooding here and there. We came through pretty darn good. Now we're gonna share all that rain with our friends in the north and north east! Here ya go! Quote
woodygap Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Glad you made it through the storm Steve. May all future winds remain "nameless". Thanks for the updates. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Now we're gonna share all that rain with our friends in the north and north east! Here ya go! Thank you, we need it Glad you came through it well. Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Now we're gonna share all that rain with our friends in the north and north east! Here ya go! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I will pass thank you. we have had way too many thunder storms the past week, followed by tornados and alerts and power outages and flooding Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 I wish you could send it my way. Man, I miss rain. Glad it was nothing like it could have been. Quote
