TCH-Andy
Thanks - I must admit it's one of the best bits of free image related software I know
TCH-Bruce
Andy, I second that opinion. I've been using it for years.

abinidi
what does the software do? why should I download it? Is it an image editor (like Photoshop)?
TweezerMan
IrfanView is a lightweight image editor, viewer, and converter. For a free program, it has impressive capabilities. One feature I like is batch converting a whole directory of images to a different format, or resizing them all with one operation. If you want more info about what IrfanView does, check out IrfanView's web site.
whoahorse
Is it better then Adobe or Paint Shop? Weezy
TweezerMan
Is it better then Adobe or Paint Shop? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It depends on what you're doing. On a general level, I guess I'd say, no, IrfanView is not better than Adobe PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro. But IrfanView is free, where as PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro both cost money. IrfanView is a small program, while the other two applications are much larger. I view IrfanView as a very nice image utility (one that I use fairly often), and PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro as full-blown image editing applications. abinidi
How do you think it compares to Picasa2 (from google), which is also free? h**p://www.picasa.com I like Picasa, but it isn't as easy to do some things as I would like. Other things are a breeze.
John Carney
The term "image editor," in this case, is a little inaccurate. Irfanview is more of an image viewer. You can adjust things like the overall brightness or color balance of an issue, crop or rotate it, or save it in a different file format. But you can't work on particular parts of an image. That having been said, Irfanview is one of the most useful pieces of freeware on my computer. It's a quick-loading, no-nonsense way to view any image file, and it's very useful for converting, say, TIFs into JPGs or what have you. It's a must-have, as far as I'm concerned. TweezerMan
How do you think it compares to Picasa2 (from google), which is also free? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Google actually lists the program as "Picasa Photo Organizer", which I would consider to be a program with somewhat of a different purpose than IrfanView. borfast
As John Carney said, Irfanview is not quite an image editor, so comparing it to Photoshop or Paint-Shop Pro is the same as comparing it to Picasa Irfanview is more like ACDSee... but much better!
