Autorespnders?

Help, oh help, oh HELP! lol

I need to set up an autoresponder, but I need it to do a WHOLE bunch of things! Please keep in mind that I am totally "IGNERNT" when it comes to these things! :D

I need one that, when people sign up for my newsletter, it will automatically add their name to the list, and send out 5 seperate messages, one every other day. A sort of demo, if you will, pertaining to a product being sold. Of course, someone who signs up today, will not receive the same message as someone who signed up 3 days ago. So it has to keep track of who gets what, as well.

Have I thoroughly confused everyone yet, or is it just me??

Of course, I don't want it to become a spam portal, either, and again, please explain in baby steps, as I think I have lost what little bit of sense I had, at this point.

Oh, and did I mention, :) ?? :D

What you want is not so much an autoresponder as a mailing list. Luckily for you, the MailMan mailing list software is standard on hosting accounts here.

Do you know how to get on CPanel for your account? If so, go to the Email section and click on "Mailing Lists" to get started. For more help in how to use MailMan, check here first:

Hi Dianna,

I don't think the autoresponder in cpanel will do all that.

I sound like you need some kind of list manager.

Most list managers will allow sign ups and let you e-mail the list subscribers

but not the way you want.

have you looked at hot scripts?

if you find one there and need help with the install,

someone here may be able to help.

Now that I look again, I can see that Don is right -- MailMan will do MOST of what you want, but won't work exactly like you're envisioning.

Although if you were willing to go through and manually delete people from the database after their ten-day trial it would work OK for you.

What you're asking for is a LITTLE complex, but doing it with MailMan would be relatively easy. It would simply require manual intervention every so often.

If I understand correctly, you are publishing a for-pay email newsletter of some kind. You want people to be able to go to your website and sign up for delivery, but you want these automated sign-ups to only get five issues for free before having to sign up for paid receipt.

If that's right, then all you'd have to do with MailMan is look at the recipients list every couple of days and manually prune out everyone who was added more than ten days ago.

What are you using to deliver your newsletter now?

Well.......kinda <g>

What I'm doing (actually not me, I'm trying to help a friend get her business site going) is a trial run for a sales item. Not exactly a mailing list per se, just more of a "teaser" for a bigger program. (did ANY of that make sense?? lol)

I only need it to "follow up" with perspective clients, by sending out 5 (opt-in) emails.

The MAIN problem is, she is TOTALLY website building illiterate, and this needs to basically run on it's own, with very LITTLE if any help from her.

Right now, it doesn't run...........we are still in the process of getting this all set up.

Thanks so much for trying to help my poor ignernt self. B)

If that's the essential task, it sounds like a job for cron. I don't use MailMan, however; could a script take care of that operation?
