Welcome to the world of search engines.

It may show up tomorrow, next week, next month, or NEVER. There is no guarantee that it will ever show up.

Ah, the joy of free search engine submission...you are at their mercy. It is their decision whether to include you or not to include you.

It may help if you add some meta tags, for discription and keywords.

I have mentioned this before, but you should do more than just meta tags. Most search engines today do not use meta tags (google being most important). I would still add them for the few engines that do use them.

Google uses Page Rank for it's results. When they spider your site, they look at all the links, incoming, outgoing, and internal. They then rate your site using info gained from the links as well as content. It is important to keep adding new content to your site to keep your current standing or improve. Some people have had sites ranked 6 or 7, but never added any new content and now rank 4 or 5. There are so many websites out there, you need to show why people should visit yours. PR calculation looks at the number and quality of links to (and somewhat from) your site. Having sites that earn high PR linking to yours is a definate advantage.

Word of caution though, avoid link farms if possible. Google (and others) can penalize or drop you from their database for participating in these link farms. Why? Because link farms hold no unique or necessary content. Many link farms have been associated with spamming and fraudulent activities. Also avoid using any cloaking methods or mirror sites (sites with a different url but contain the exact same content.) These can get you banned from the database as well.

I would suggest submitting your site manually rather than using the mass submission tools. Some of these services have been identified by the search engines as dishonest and are banned from their databases. Avoid submitting the same site multiple times to the same engine. I have had much better results submitting sites by hand than using the auto services.

At bare minimum, make sure you submit your site to google, dmoz, and yahoo (and I do mean bare minimum).

not too far off topic, how well does (meta tag) revisit-after work?

Mr. Bill

Revisit-after is pretty much a meta tag from the past. All the major spiders have their own 'schedules' in dealing with respidering. This is based on many different factors (rank being the most important).

I will give you one hint, alter your home page at least once a month (twice would be better).

Your site should be listed in Dmoz.org or Yahoo.com directory, if you want your site to get listed within top 100 search engines. If that is not possible, you should try to get as many reciprocal links as possible, from other sites. It helps to get your site indexed quickly.

This won't get your site indexed. It will help your site come up within search results for those keywords. There are several factors related to search engine ranking.

According to me, meta tags and description tags MUST be added. That is because, if the keywords are present in your description tag, then the whole description text is visible to the web searcher. This gives you a good chance to draw attention of the visitor to your site.

Yes, meta tags are used by only a few search engines like Altavista.com ,etc. It won't help your site's rankings.

Also, it does not cost you a single penny to add the meta & description tags. Just a few minutes.

Revisit tag may help. But a better option is to modify your webpage content frequently. Simply add something new or delete a few lines. Make a table at the bottom of the webpage and keep on modifying it after every few days. It will make Google crawl your website more often. The best way is to add a news section at the bottom of the webpages and add the Revisit tags. Try those free news (content) syndication sites.
