Neomail, Horde And Squirrelmail - Comparison

Hello, I'm new here and this is my first web posting. :-) I'm just wondering, how do these three email programs compare in terms of features, stability, performance/speed, and security. I've had a go at them but I don't have a lot of experience with either of them. I understand that Neomail is the most user-friendly out of the three but lack some of the complex features that comes with Horde and Squirrelmail, is that true? Any tips and comments would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the forums. Now the bad news. I dont use web mail oftem enough to give an honest answer. Hang tight and others should give an answer for you.

Again, I'm tend to use an email client, rather than webmail most of the time.

 

If you are behind a firewall, then sometimes squirrelmail (domain/sqmail) is the only one that works.

I recommend Horde, personally.

Neomail sucks (and creates folders in your mail directory), and Squirrel mail... well, I've never honestly used it, so I can't tell you.

Hmm so, it's two for Squirrelmail and one for Horde. Thanks for the note about the firewalls working well with Squirrelmail and the folder creation that happens with Neomail.

I too use e-mail client the most,

but like that I can use squirrelmail

at work behind corp. firewall

And for some reason it seems better.

I use an external client. Squirrel Mail has an advantage in being accessible from port 80, so can be gotten to from behind most firewalls. I use horde becaue it's the only one that can access my spam folders. =) That's the only thing I use it for - all non spam I use my local client.

I use an external client, mostly, and SquirrelMail when I have to use Webmail. Horde is the best if you're doing administrator stuff, as it makes it easy to check all your mailboxes and spam folders.

Thanks Lisa, Don and Steve for the helpful tips. Sounds like Horde is useful for multiple inbox checkings and spam retrieval while Squirrelmail runs on port 80.

How do I check multiple inboxes from Horde? I've tried finding it in Horde's FAQs but they don't seem to say anything about it. Also, what do I do in order to route spam to a spam folder and how do I go about checking my spam every now and then?

There's a drop down box in the upper right, use that to choose a mailbox. =)
