danceswithscissors
What is the purpose for disabling URLs with astericks in this forum? Such as: h**p://www.blahblahblah.com/ Just curious ....
Virtual Imager
I think it might have something to do with the fact that hot links would be seen by the search engines as a 'vote' for the site that is linked when it comes to ranking and TotalChoice Hosting does not want to provide that link/vote. Another reason may be that since the forum guidelines forbid members and visitors to use the forums to promote their own commercial sites and interests, the URLs need to be disabled. Of course I could be totally wrong and I'm sure a Mod or Staff member will be along soon to correct me if I am. That is my understanding at the moment though. danceswithscissors
Thank you It's just one of those cute little images that comes through email. I change my avatar frequently just to try to use them all. LOL
annie
And if you enable a link, a visit from that link will show up in the visited site's logs. In some instances that's not a good thing. Personally, I enable links people goof up on my forum (edit the posts). But it's a choice, and it can go either way depending on whose forum it is. Deverill
Another thing is that the sites we link to from TCH reflects on TCH's reputation, both in the search engines and with visitors who see the link. I'm sure most sites are wonderful but I'm not sure Bill wants his company formally linked to them all in what is an implied show of support. TCH-Rob
That said, if it truly benefits our community a live link is fine. Have a great site on CSS or how to get the latest virus removed? Post a link.
danceswithscissors
I wouldn't know a great CSS site if it bit me on the nose, so if I ever find a great site I'll just filter it through *the powers that be* first. woooot
TCH-Rob
Jana, Link how you wish. If everyone did it perfect then there would be no need for us mods. It took me a long time to find a place that accepts weirdos like me, and they have a use for me. So if you did things perfectly there would be no mods, no mods means no me here and no me here means you all would have a normal Internet experience. So you see, we need you to make mistakes. annie
Yeah, this forum is set to accept search bots, and it's popular enough so Googlebot checks it obsessively. I've set my forum to be off limits for bots, so I don't bother with where people link to from my forum, unless they're truely awful sites. Like I said, different forums, different rules. danceswithscissors
(TDE) The Desert Express August 16, 2004 PHOENICIAN TOAST The west side of Phoenix went up in flames today. Fire investigators looking for the cause found a catering grill, partially melted and fused to a Budweiser keg. Upon finding several empty packages of Robsonville Bratwurst in a nearby dumpster, local officials were able to narrow their search, and apprehend the infamous Beer&Bratwurst Man. He offered little resistance as they pulled him out from behind a large barrel of mustard. His only comment as he was taken away, "I'll be brat!"
