I've created a 16x16 favicon for my blog. I started with a 16x16 bitmap image that I renamed to "favicon.ico". Next, I uploaded this to the directory /doggydiaries/favicon.ico. My blog is located at http://www.doggydiaries.pudgypuppy.com/, so I put the favicon in the /doggydiaries/ directory.

When I view my blog, however, the favicon is noticeably absent. Instead, there's just a blank space where it should be displayed. Any idea how to fix this problem?

Thanks!

Thanks, I see it now, too. I don't know what the problem was because I had tried refresh when I didn't see it the first time. I guess it was a caching issue on my local machine...

In most browsers favicons are not handled by the same caching mechanism as pages, and so can take some mind-boggling effort to get to show. I just give it a few reloads and eventually you'll look and be surprised that it's there. =)

I can't get it to show in my Firefox despite numerous refreshes. I had that problem when I used a favicon.ico. It would show up just fine in IE but never did display in Firefox. Bummer.

For bunni and danceswithscissors,

What version of Firefox are you running? I'm at work, and my install of Firefox is v0.8. This is the one that I had to clear the cache and history before being able to see the favicon.

I'm using 0.9.2

Kasey, I cleared my cache and it shows up just dandy in Firefox 0.9.2. Cute!

I removed my favicon.ico because it was linked to a favicon website and the hits were throwing my stats off.
