TCH-Thomas
I received this today: There appears to be a problem on this page of your site. On page http://www.jikrantz.se/home/importance/kw.htm when you click on "CSB-forum.", the link to http://http://www.globalscape.com/board/boards.asp gives the error: Domain name lookup failed (may be a transient error). As recommended by the Robot Guidelines, this email is to explain our robot's visit to your site, and to let you know about one of the problems we found. We don't store or publish the content of your pages, but rather use the link information to update our map of the World Wide Web. Are these reports helpful? I'd love some feedback. If you prefer not to receive these occasional error notices please let me know. Roy Bryant ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Roy Bryant, roybryant@seventwentyfour.com President SEVENtwentyfour Inc. http://www.seventwentyfour.com I cant decide if I like it or not, that they go through my site and reports broken links etc. If I let them know I do not want occasional error notices, will they not send me it you think? bellringr
I got one of these a few weeks back, and I was really happy because it explained a 404 error I hadn't been able to figure out. I had a couple of conversations with this guy back and forth and he seemed very nice. I imagine if you asked he would respect your wishes. annie
I get those too occasionally. It's just a spider, and occasionally they catch stuff I wasn't aware of. It's not a spamming outfit, in that they don't flood you with e-mails. Only the occasional one about dead links within your site.
ThumpAZ
SevenTwentyFour is actually a sort of "watchdog" entity. They do offer paid services, but they will occasionally contact owners of sites that are not customers to let them know of problems encountered. It is a great marketing tool, actually. They show you a problem, and as stated up there ^^^^, will sometimes clue you in to the problem's solution. They have now proven that they know what they are doing, and can help in a lot of situations... you're sold on their service. I have found that their service is great for large or complex sites. DarqFlare
I've received a couple of those before... Then again, I regularly check my error log, so I usually know when 404s happen on my site.
