Hi,

I'm using TCH-MikeJ's php cron job to run a backup of my entire site:

Once I log into my CPanel and download the backup, how can I delete the last more recently created backup? For example, I just downloaded one for 6/20/04 so how can I delete the one for 6/12/04? Or is it automatically deleted? I don't know where the backups are to log in via FTP and download/delete manually.

thanks,

Downloading via FTP is more efficient, so you should think about learning that.

But it's also possible to delete stuff via the File Manager.

But frankly, FTP was easier for me to learn than File Manager, even though I use both methods. FTP is FAR less fiddly!

The backup files are normally in your root folder. The one above the "public_html" folder unless you have entered a different path.

So you should be able to see them with an FTP client. I delete them manually including the current one created after I download it to my computer.

Also creating a backup and not downloading it to your own computer would be of no use. If the server goes down, your backup would go with it.

I'd LOVE to use FTP, but I don't see the backup files in my root folder and I don't think I specified a different folder.

How do I find out which folder I did specify? The PHP file from TCH-MikeJ doesn't require you to specify a folder.

Just wanted to know if anyone could answer my question above. Thanks ! I mostly just worry about the old backups taking up unecessary space.

After I tried my WS_FTP and had no success, I tried the CPanel's File Manager and still nothing.

In Cpanel, in Backup, when I click on Generate/Download a Backup, it's set to go to the Home Directory. But since I'm using the php/cron combo, I'm not sure where the backup goes to. I'm guessing it should be the root folder but I don't see it. I've also checked the folder where the PHP file is and still nothing!

Right now, if I want to download the backup, I have to log into CPanel, go to Backup and click on Download a home directory Backup and then I can save it. When I hover over that link, the status bar shows this:

h**ps://server**.totalchoicehosting.com:****/getbackup/backup-6-23-2004.tar.gz

so that doesn't let me know where the file could be located either. :goof:

I'm so lost. While Im here I might as well ask this: what's an "alias" and why would I want to download a backup of it?

thanks,
