Reciprocal Links Or Link Exchange

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,

I'm new here :D . I'm trying to promote one of my company's websites (Real Estate) & (not sure if I can poste the name of the host) working with reciprocal links all the time. I don't use links generator or any other software, - everything manualy. I read quite enough about reciprocal links, so I'm doing it.

I have a few new projects that I'm working on right now, & it needs to be promoted too. Well, I just feel not good imagening doing all over again reciprocal links compaign.

Just wanted to hear your opinion on this subject. Is there any way promoting more - ivesting less?

Thank you.

I'd say the best free ways would be submitting yourself to all the big search engines, and by word of mouth. Find some communities about your topic, and don't spam the people with advertising, but get in and know 'em then occassionally slide in a comment or two about the page.

I know it's not much, but hope this helps you a little! :D

I know you say you do it manually but I have had good results with some of these generators.

I feel reciprocal links are very important to your site as it tells the search spiders that you have web presents as the links get spidered your pages are seen by the spiders. There are alot of ways to get your reciprocal links out there a couple of new sites that I have seen are these are very new and just beginning to gain present:

http://www.reciprocal-links.co.uk/

http://www.webringspiders.com

htTp://www.quality-link-popularity.com

these are services who collect the links for you. One is a download and the others are not there are several more too. You can even do a search in google. So you might not even need to change your site just build a link page and place a link on your main page. You will find other sites may charge.

I don't know may be that helped. But to me it is important sites have gotten indexed with out even submitting to search engines if they find your link and follow it.

Be very careful about adding your site to linkfarms or reciprocal link sites. While you may get a increase of traffic from it, many of these sites have been getting banned by the search engines, especially google. To some search engines, they consider it spamming. Your best bet is to submit your site to all the major search engines. You may also consider using a service like googles addwords where you can target the site to a particular audience.

Your budget will dictate your promotion efforts, but be sure you target your campaigns for audiences that would use your site. Also, when building your sites, make them search engine friendly. Meta Tags are becoming a thing of the past to search engines. A few still use them, but google, the #1 engine does not. They spider your site, following your links and then give you a pagerank that determines your position in their results. There is a whole thread devoted to google and the other search engines over at sitepoint.com. I suggest checking that out to learn more. There are so many variables to search engine processes that it would be impossible to cover them all here.

Thanks guys!

What do you say if I make search on google for reciprocal links and submit & reciprocate with the websites that will come up (on google). Does it make risk less to be banned from google?

Max

P.S. Actually I reciprocated to a few websites which just do reciprocal links & almost next day my rank went down plus Google doesn't sho any links to me for request link:****

Anyway, maybe you could look at this: http://c21myrtlebeach.com direct path to my links page is http://links.c21myrtlebeach.com & you can find those websites that I have some doubts for under ther Reciprocal Links category.

What Matt says is very true... though he uses a softer tone then I. :D

Previous thread discussing dangers of link exchange farms can be found here.

It looks to me like your site is not indexed yet in Google. You have been initially spidered but not indexed.

This has been discussed here.

I did not look at your site too closely, but some quick advice: remove all your external links from your home page. Create a separate page for them, this will help your page rank. Google's page rank (PR) needs explaining and I promise at one point to put together a complete explanation.

Another thread you might find helpful is here.

here goes

The bad: Link Exchange ... a very, very bad idea. I would get out of this as soon as you can. This is a classic link farm that will get you banned from search engines. Seriously! I can elaborate in more detail if need be.

It wasn't referred to my website, but I also gathered around 200 reciprocal links "manually" (90% related to our business). Is it being recognized as a Link Farm too? If so, how do I get people linking to me & not reciprocating back? As I understand incoming links making your PR ...

Thank you.

I do not see any problem with your links page (and strategy). As you say, 90% are related to your industry. Very different than, as Google states, participating in link scheme designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank.

I agree with dsdemmin (a fellow SEO guru), the spiders are continually being adjusted to weed out those who choose to be less honest in their SEO approaches.

While google is #1, you don't want to optimize your site only for google. Meta Tags are being used less and less, but I still try to include them for the engines that do use them. Every little bit helps. As was previously mentioned, submit to DMOZ, it may take a while to get your site added to the directory, but the results are worth it. Issues have also been presented where the spiders have difficulties spidering picture and java links. Some are able to though. For this I always recommend having a backup navigation option such as text links and a site map.

I know several people who have used pay-optimization companies, but have never used one myself. Their results were mixed, so it is best to investigate and learn about the company before utilizing their service. I would try to find people who have used the service and ask them what effect it had and what the results were. Like some of the link farms, google has also begun to downgrade some SEO-company tactics. Mind you there are still plenty out there whose tactics are not questionable and do produce results.

In summary, do some checking before signing on to a SEO company. Depending on your site content, size, and intents, most people can optimize their sites by hand thereby saving the money they would have spent to have someone do it for them. Doing it yourself will also be a learning experience as you will be approaching your site from a visitor standpoint instead of the builder. Many sites have flawed navigation structures and that costs them in the long run. If your site is not easily accessible and users have to search all over for the info, chances are they will become frustrated and leave your site. If you deal in ecommerce, that equates to a possible lost sale. :P

About DMOZ:

I have submited my website to DMOZ. And actuall I was listed there for a few days, and than they took me off.

I'm not sure why. But, we have another website and both of them had the same site name & a little bit different description and they were placed one after another (I mean in the category we had two websites sitting next to each other). And I though, maybe they took our new website off beause of the same website name, or just because both of them have similar content and belong to the same company with the same name.

Well, I submitted it again with the different website name (so it wouldn't be the same as the other website that already in DMOZ directory). It's already at least 2 months past and I'm steal not there.

Google is acting strange too. It doesn't show any links to me by request link:c21myrtlebeach.com (it did before). There is an option that you can choose, something like "shaw pages that contain http://c21myrtlebeach.com" and it shaws around 60 links to me. And by search request : North Myrtle Beach properties for sale we come up #1 in Google (I need North Myrtle Beach Real Estate - it's not the point though), just want to as if google still will deep crawl my website. I thought it was indexed... but you told me that it's not yet.

Thank you. You're very helpful.

I'll try not to write a book this time (although I usually end up doing so anyway).

I will address the google issue first. Google has you with a current PR of 4. Has this been higher previously to your knowledge? One issue could possibly be your frames. Google has been acting very strange lately in it's spidering of framed sites. Many sites have seen their PR drop from 6 to 4 (or similar) with no navigational changes being made, but content updates were made. I wish I could explain what it is doing, but I am still trying to figure it out as one of my sites uses frames as well. Also, the dance started late this month and that has had a little impact.

DMOZ...what catagory (bottom of tree) were you in previously? We move things around quite a bit to try and make sure the directories are as accurate and specific as possible. Give me a sec, I am going to try to find your listing....aside from the site being jacked up today (dmoz that is) it is currently not letting me log in. I will check later. Anyway, 2 months is not necessarily an indicator of your site being rejected. Depending on the number of editors and submissions for your catagory, it can take a good length of time as each site is reviewed manually.

I hope this helps. I will try later to find your dmoz listing....if it ever let's me in

Yes, my PR was 4/10 all the time, I mean it didn't drop down  Just want to be sure that deep crawler will go through the website.

Category in DMOZ

United States > South Carolina > North Myrtle Beach > Real Estate

It may be not exact path (there can be Localties or something like this and then only the city) anyway, you'll see there <b>Century 21 Coastal Carolina Properties website</b> - this is one of ours, but the new one I submitted as <b>North Myrtle Beach Real Estate</b> and it's not there. As I said in previous message it was there for a few days - not anymore.

Thank you.

Sorry for my delayed response.

I thought it was indexed... but you told me that it's not yet.
Your search - link:http://www.c21myrtlebeach.com - did not match any documents.  Google

The above is from google, no backlinks strongly suggests that you have not been indexed. Your site is 'known' and you have a hypothetical PR but you are not indexed yet... just a mater of time (maybe a couple weeks).

And I though, maybe they took our new website off because of the same website name, or just because both of them have similar content and belong to the same company with the same name.
Search engines do not like redundant content. Google states:

Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.

Multiple domains with 'substantially duplicated content' can be banned (which is a good thing for the Internet community). Matt should have more insight to dmoz's policy but I know that there are reviewers that would exclude a domain if they felt it was redundant information coming from the same source.

You can always ask:

Good luck.

This is the thing that the webites by themselves are not the same. The only one thing that can be duplicated - property listings that in database (but they are not in the same order & we don't list all of our properties on our new website), and another one is company name, address and contac info. I don't think that can be the reason.

The new website is completely different with much more information and different resources. I don't have subdomains that duplicated content. I've got three subdomains: 1. for list of reciprocal links; 2. for submitting your URL (reciprocation request form); 3. Property listings - becasure pages being generated by asp scripts it's easier to give customer just subdomain name, also it's easier type it in e-mails. But I didn't have those subdomains at the time whan I saw my link at DMOZ directory.

That's it :)

Okay.

I've been rejected for having two domains for one company. They told me that I can pick only one and if I wish, I can update my record in the directory and change to my new website. However, there is no way to have both of them in the directory.

Now I need help. I remember, that those few days when my new website was on DMOZ my search engine saturation and link popularity increased dramatically and I want to experience it again. I'm working on content, and have some projects going on that not updated yet, but they will be sooner or later & it could be very attractive for our customers. At the same time, the website that listed in the directory isn't mine (I don't administrate it) and the host organized it the way that all the leads that coming to us, don't matter on which of their subscribers website they came, they send them to everybody, unless it requests a certain listing. So we're getting leads and I don't think it would be right to switch it in the DMOZ to another one that I'm working on.

... you know guys, I think I just answered my question. I looked at the link popularity of the website that we have listed with DMOZ, and it auful, and we're getting those leads just because of reciprocity inside of the website (as i said above) and not of its own popularity.

I'll switch it to our new one. I don't think it will affect the old website anyway.

Hope you understand what's going on in my mind  , its really hard express it in english - it's my third language :D .

Any suggestions? Before I killed myself :P

Gemini:

Warning: You are treading in deep water.

You are just discussing dmoz at the moment but other consequences will result down the road with both dmoz and other search engines.

In addition, having two domains with redundant content will get you in trouble with the other Search Engines (i.e. Google), it just a matter of time.

I (and others) have given good general web site promotion advice here and in other threads that I think warrant review. You really need to reconsider your overall Internet plan (not just focusing on the dmoz issue at present). Once you have that plan, device a good strategy, then implement that strategy.

Without thoroughly analyzing your specific situation, I can not give specifics on what I would do as far as plan, strategy and implementation.

So, really think the 'big' picture though before acting.

Good luck.
