YMe369 Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 OK heres the deal, ive got one main site and 3 subdomains, i wanted to add some kind of search function to one subdomain, then i saw EntropySearch, so i thought like "Found it", well i was right and wrong... The right part: It searches really good, i was pleased by the searchresults. The wrong part: It searches through my whole site, so instead of searching in just the subdomain, it looks through all the subdomains etc. I tried changing some path settings, but it still finds the same, it just showsa a different path in the results.. I hope that anyonme knows anything about this?? Many thanks in Advance Quote
KevinW Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 This is from the cPanel online documentation: Warning: This search engine searches all of the ASCII (text) files on your site. This includes HTML, PERL, plain text files, etc. Since there is no way to limit the search engine, if any of these files contain sensitive information, either encrypt the files or remove them from your site. This is a smart move anyway - you should not store sensitive information on your web site without encryption. The key line is highlighted ... and probably answers your question. Since the Entropy Search is part of cPanel, it appears that it only works against your entire web site, including subdomains or subdirectories. Personally, I have installed and used a web site search engine from Perl Services called PSLightning Search that will work on a single subdomain. Perhaps other TCH users have their favorite web search engine utility??? -kw Quote
SEO Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Thanks for the post kw. I have been looking at various search scripts and not found one that I like 100%. I will look into PSLightning (next time I have a free min.). Again, thanks for the post. Quote
YMe369 Posted March 11, 2003 Author Posted March 11, 2003 Ohh sorry, i didnt realize that Cpanel had that documentation, i should ve checked that first. But thanks The perl stuff sounds great, too bad its (for me) too expensive . So once again sorry Quote
borfast Posted March 15, 2003 Posted March 15, 2003 You may want to try mnogosearch. I can't remember the web address but if you search google it will certainly get you there And while you're at it, why not search for "php search engine", or "perl search engine" too? Quote
