Fraterd Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Hello everyone, I am new to the TCH family, not even a month yet lol. I have a question that i haven't been able to find much information on and was hoping someone here may be able to point me in the right direction. I know a lot of individuals usually set up a site with a hosting provider in order to make a little extra money. I am in the process of setting up my site and was wanting to do banner advertising on it. In other words the layout i am using has a place where banners can be displayed on the site and each time the page is refreshed it shows a different banner that anyone can click to get to the next site. (I'm sure everyone knows that but i just had to explain hehehe ) So i guess my question is this, is there a site that can give me information on how to charge for this or is there anyone here doing the same thing and if so how did you go about setting everything up? I'm not looking to become rich or anything like that, just looking to find a way to suppliment the cost and time i have put into the site, if that makes any sense. I jave seen a few things on the net where site 1 will offer unlimited impressions for 300.00 and site 2 offeres 500 impressings for 100.00 but they don't explain how to go about it. Any help would be appreciated and i look forward to reading your replies. Thanks, Frater Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Welcome to the family, Frater! While I don't use them I'm sure if you googled for "ad banner campaign" you would get some hits. You might want to look into affiliate programs for things relating to your site as well. Quote
annie Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 You'd have to have a lot of traffic first. And banner ads isn't all that hot anymore. Too many are doing it, and the returns aren't that great. You'd most likely have to sign up with some kind of service, unless you've got a niche site that would deliver targeted traffic to some business. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I think TCH-Robert does them on his site and TCH-Mike as well. They may have some pointers too. Quote

At this time i am already a member of a couple affiliate programs that are specific to the site i am setting up so hopefully they will help. Will post back on any findings with the google search Many thanks, Frater Quote

I guess you could say i have a niche site. The 3 affiliate programs i belong to at this time are geared towards a specific theme i guess you could say. I am in the process of contacting a few other sites to see if they would be interested in placing a banner on my site. *crossing fingers* I agree that i would have to have a lot of traffic...i'm hoping that will be the case but only time will tell lol Thank you for your reply and i look forward to talking with you more. LisaJill Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 I have a small site but was recently accepted into the google adsense program. You can run all sorts of different styles of ads with them and because of the way they work; they're usually on topic... =) Quote
annie Posted May 25, 2004 Posted May 25, 2004 Yeah, Google Adsense are the rage now. Mostly text ads. Quote
Deverill Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Both of Google's advertisements can be researched from this page: www.google.com/ads/index.html Adwords is for buying space on other people's sites and Adsense is if you want to show ads from other people on your site (and get a cut of their advertising dollar). I also found a bunch of sites by Googling "affiliate banner programs". Quote
TCH-Dick Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I have the google adsense adds on my site, unless you have a VERY high traffic site odds are you wont see any return until the end of the year. Google adds only pay if you reach $100 in a single month. So, if you make $50 every month for 12 months you'd get $600 at the end of the year. If you made $50 for three months and the fourth month made $100 you'd get paid for all 4 months so you'd get $250 Quote
Fraterd Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 Thank you all very much! I am going to check out Google Adsense now. Sounds like a great way to go. Rock Sign Quote
