  1. OK, that was it. I feel really stupid now because several years ago, I would have known this. Too much work in Windows I guess. It starts the download correctly when I use the right capitalization. Thanks for your help. And by the way, I was just referencing it on the URL without a link. Thanks again.
  2. Not Found The requested URL /deena.zip was not found on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
  3. I put a big file (~123 MB) in the root level of the public_html folder. I named it deena.zip It is a bunch of zipped pictures from a college graduation that I took from the grandstands. Anyway, I thought I could send someone to www.mysite.com/deena.zip and they could download it. I opened a ticket, and the techs can download it, but I cant from 3 different computers. I can download other files from the root, but not this one. The files permissions are 644 so the world has read permissions. Unless something else is blocking the .zip extension or the file size is a factor, I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated.
  4. It is a webpage called when a form is filled out and the submit button is pressed. It basically massages the data and then opens the mysql database and inserts the data or updates or deletes the data based on form variables. Then it returns the user back to the previous page with a get type variable and reloads the page they are looking at. So they do not see it, but it processes and leaves the page. In essence, they can go there, but I dont want them to go there if they know the url. They should not be there without the webpages sending them there when ready. I just dont know what the industry standard is to allow this. Just asking the seasoned prfessionals here for direction. I could do a check to open a database and see if they are authorized to see that webpage, but I have another "Setup" page that lets the admins give rights to the users by checking the functions they can do. Sometimes that function is 3-4 webpage accesses, and sometimes 1 page. So it might be a nightmare to say, if they can administer all users personal data, they need access to allupdate.php, and process_allupdate.php, and allupdatecontent.php, but access to the home page is just index.php. See my dilema? (sp?)(sorry spellchecking is not enabled on this forum).
  5. I am using session variables to authenticate a user to my website. But once authenticated, I do not know how to keep them from going to a webpage that they shouldnt go to, such as a process_userupdate.php. I thought I might have seen someone suggest that you make a page index.php and have it include a indexcontent.inc and then limit how the apache server blocks .inc files except that they calling page can still somehow access the .inc page but someone could not go directly to that page. Has anyone else dealt with this? I know I cant be the first one. Is there some industry standard for how to handle this type of access? Let me know. Otherwise I will have to check at the top of each page and see who they are logged in as and have another database of pages that this user is authorized to see.
  6. Let me just say I have been trying to make this work for several hours ans was getting an error about could not find the file: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/_mmServerScripts/MMHTTPDB.php. I was trying to use my IP address because I do not have a website setup yet. I finally had to use the following settings: Say my cpanel username is dude123 MySql Settings: Connection name: whatever MySql Server: localhost username: dude123_scott password: ********** Database: dude123_voting In the testing server setup: Server Model: PhP MySql Access: PHP FTP Host: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (my tch ip address sent on signup) Host directory: public_html/ Login: dude123 password: xxxxxxxx URL Prefix: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~dude123/ It was nut until I put the ~dude123 in the prefix that it started working. This is probably not necessary if you have a domain name pointed at the site. But I dont have one yet. hope this helps.
  7. O.K. I can try that. I did want people to get an autoreply so they know that my old address was not getting read, and they can contact me if they want a new one, but I guess I could just remove it. I am amazed at how many place sell your email address.
  8. I have given out my email to hundreds of companies over the years, and now I find that I am getting about 250-300 emails a day. So I heard a great idea. If you have your own domain, give out the address as a unique email for them, so you can see who is selling your name. For example, I go to xyz magazine and register and they want an email address, so I give them xyzmag@****. Then I have all emails that do not have a real email box, go to the default email address. When I want to block someone, I setup a filter for that address like fastcomputers@**** --> Discard. Then they lose the right to send me emails. So I go set this up, and I want to tell everyone that my old address myname@**** is no longer working and call me for an update. I use an autoresponder for this. (Which is also supposed to send the email to discard). But what I am finding is that the email is not getting discarded all the time. So I set a filter so that myname@**** --> discard. Now the autoresponder does not work. What order does the Filter, autoresponder, and default email routing process the incoming email? If you can see another prefered way to do this let me know. Thanks for the help. After posting I see that email addresses are *'d out. what the above stars should say is "mydomain" (used for example)
  9. Well, how do I say this. . . I have had several responses from the tech's on the open ticket. Most were . . . . not. . . quite what I needed. maybe it's not possible. I would have to modify the godaddy MX records and possibly cname entries to somehow point to TCH. but I have now changed the DNS to godaddy, because they said to get forwarding to work there, I had to do that. So now ALL entries to my website are forwarded to the Keller Williams website. I have setup Apache before, and had it look at the header coming in to use the website address to go to the right place. But since <mydomainname> now points elsewhere, it is not transferred to TCH anymore. I would have to somehow take the MX records and send them to TCH with the domain name in the header to get them to go to the right place, right? Maybe this in not possible. I will use one of the other 4 or 5 domains I have hosted at TCH for the emails. I get very few at this domain anyway. Thanks for trying.
  10. I need some 'splaining. I guess I just dont get it. I have a domain name at GoDaddy. I had it hosted at TCH. I now need it to point to our real estate site at Keller Williams. So I went to GoDaddy and clicked on "Forwarding" and it asked me for the url. I put it in and it said for this to work, I have to change my DNS to their DNS server. So I did. Now all the mail goes there too. BUT I dont want it to do that. I want the email to stay on TCH. I was told I need to make changes AT GoDaddy to the cname and/or MX records. What would I need to change these to? something like: mail.<IpAddressOfMyServerAtTCH> ? Hopefully someone can explain this better. I have a ticket open but I'm just not understanding what the tech is telling me. I think he is saying I need to make changes at Keller Williams, but of course I cant do that there. . .
  11. Thanks for making me feel so welcomed. . . .
  12. I am setting up a website for my organization. I would like to have a public page, and then a members page. Of course the member's page should be off limits to anyone that is not a member. I was thinking about using php-nuke, so I can make last minute announcements on the main page, and have articles and information for the members that they can get anytime they need it. I would also like a main area for those who are interested in our organization, and want to join, or ask for our help. Should I use two php-nuke installations with a link from the first to the second? Then the link would only show up for those who are registered on the first site? Are there any of you that are doing this and have good advice for me. What are your thoughts about how to do this? -Scott
  13. o.k. I figured it out. I did not search for the right keywords. The answer was here all along. You use the redirect link from Cpanel. Then leave the first field blank (root) and put the full url directory in the second. What I wanted the system to do was when someone went to mysite.com, they would not be put in the "mysite.com\public_html" directory, but in the "mysite.com\public_html\html" directory. That is where the index.php file is located at. Thanks for the followup though.
  14. When I installed the latest php-nuke, it put the main index.php file in the "html" folder. Can I change the root folder that everyone sees when going to my site from "public_html" to "public_html\html"? Right now I am using a redirect page, but I think that's messy. I dont know what would happen if I reinstalled and put it up one level and changed the html folder to public_html. I think alot of links would stop working. . . . Any advice?
