  1. Don't forget to make copies of everything before you dust!
  2. It is the only software that Google specifically names in their Webmaster Guidelines Under Quality Guidelines - Basic principles: Hmm... need I say more

The basic tag for a horizontal rule, <HR> is still valid in HTML, but all its attributes were deprecated in HTML 4.0 (marked for future deletion). You are correct Raul (no surprise ), you can use the background attribute in CSS and it will work in Explorer 5.x and 6.x, and Netscape 6.x browsers. Ex. HR { height:1px; width:50%; background:#000066; margin: 0px 150px 0px 150px; } I still prefer a simple gif file though
  4. Richard: Meow Web Design has been added to our Web Hosting Family Members page SEO Thoughts: Hmm.... Richard sometimes it is difficult to evaluate without offending the designer. Please do not take anything I say personal... it is an honest evaluation. Having that said, also keep in mind that my comments will be restricted to a search engine optimization point of view. It is obviously you who must weigh the decision on altering the visual presentation for the sake of an eight legged creature (i.e. search engine spider). Holding nothing back (really looking at home.html as your home page, see 1. below): 1. Get rid of the Intro. 2. Get rid of frames (real bad with regard to spiders analyzing a page) 3. Set Alt tags on all your images 4. Woo! You have a lot of keywords! Reduce these (substantially) to the most relevant only. The more words you have in any of your meta tags means that each word you do have will be less significant (i.e. watering down relevancy of all). Also, remember to list these in order of importance; most important first) 5. Assuming you want to optimize for Meow Web Design, change all your 'We can...' to 'Meow Web Design can...' 6. Offset keyword phrases within your body text with a bold tag. 7. Include a couple header tags within the body. These should contain keywords. I know you are not going to like some of these suggestions, especially 1. and 2., sorry. These two suggestions are the most important out of the lot (i.e. have the greatest contribution to rank). Again sorry and good luck.
  5. Norman: We have added you to our Extended Family - Personal Sites page SEO thoughts (i.e. ranking well with the search engines): You are not in the Google index (yet). The best way to be included within the index is to have your site spidered by Google from an existing indexed page. Now that we have added you to our family page, you will get spidered. 1. You need to add meta description and keyword tags. IMPORTANT: Get that meta description tag before you get spidered (i.e. do it now). Read Search Engine Optimization - Web Page Specifics for more information. 2. I agree with your previous post that your ideal keyword phrase should be 'Vesprini'... you aren't by chance Italian? Therefore: - Change the alt tags on 'News' and 'Photo Albums' to 'Vesprini News' and 'Vesprini Photos' - Change the alt tag on your 'Norman and Tara....' to Norman and Tara Vesprini' - Change text: Here you'll find news, photo albums, and other fun stuff about the Vesprini's 3. I would like to see a little bit more text on your home page with 'vesprini' in the text. One or two short paragraphs maybe? 4. Get rid of the counter at the bottom (non-SEO comment; visual opinion) 5. Change your title tags on all your internal pages (e.g. <title>Vesprini Photo Albums</title> 6. Add Meta Description tags to all internal pages. This will help. Congrats on the soon to be small life form.... your lives are about to change [ I have $10.00 that he or she will have blue eyes! ]
  6. Tim: Sorry to keep dodging the task... I do not see a link back to TCH, am I missing it? Also, you did not give me a description. Not sure if you read that in my previous post. Have you looked at How To Add Your Site?
  7. Rachel: We have added Dana F. Brooks to our Web Hosting Family Members page Welcome aboard!
  8. I will try ... working my way through the emails and other posts but I will add you soon.

No SEO motive here just a browser support issue (e.g. the color attribute). I think a simple .gif line (universal support ) with a defined 'look' is better visually.
  10. Sorry, your statement "why I got dropped from Google" suggested that you indeed got 'dropped'. Being dropped would be a much bigger problem then going down in rank. To the reason why on your lower rank? Well that could be do to a lot of different factors including the fact that maybe you did not go down, others rose. Seriously, other sites changing to get ranked higher could explain it. You need to do research. What is your rank now? The sites that moved above you were where (in rankings) prior to the change? Are these new sites that rank above you and thus may be only a temporary placement? Lots of questions to ask. One more key question, is 'southern california printing' the best phrase for you? I will have more SEO thoughts for you Tim when I add your site to our family pages and actually look at the site (which will be soon).
  11. Norman: Good first post... may you have many more I am away at meetings until Thursday... will get to you then. Sorry for the delay and welcome to the family!
  12. Tim: Away at meetings until Thursday... will get to you then. Sorry for the delay. Also, please give me a description for the site (better you write it then me )
  13. Richard: Away at meetings until Thursday... will get to you then. Sorry for the delay.

True about hr line... don't use it. I always recommend a graphic instead (i.e. a small gif file).
  15. You site was not dropped. Your home page has a PageRank of 4; you have two relevant backlinks; you have 30 pages indexed (in Google).
  16. Keith: Your site has been added to our Family Members page
  17. Laura: Burke Design has been added to our Family Members page
  18. Not to anyone who has been around here for any length of time
  19. Raul, that was my exact thought when I read the opening post. However when you look at it again, Andy did write java script which is indeed correct (well Java script would have been better ). Never really thought about it, I guess technically I should write JavaScript script when I am referring to JavaScript Hey Andy... the ole case sensitive gets us all! I would like to welcome you too... Welcome
  20. Yes, it is possible (anyone can choose to link to you). No. I will assume that you are on a shared server. What ever else is on that server is not associated with your site (i.e. no one can hide anything on your space within that server). A slight tangent with regard to the statement "What ever else is on that server is not associated with your site" could be slightly misleading if we are talking about the server specifically (e.g. IP address) and not a specific site. However this is not associated with your concern. One more note with regard to AwStates. It seems that others have seen sites referenced to theirs that do not contain a legitimate link (i.e. maybe what you are experiencing). You will be interested to read the thread entitled: External Links/Ranking, question with AwStats. I agree with you about 'not looking' but the only way to be sure is to look. Maybe someone here would be willing (sorry, I feel the same way you do). If so, you could PM them the link and your site and they could confirm the context of the link (if any). Hope this helps.
  21. Welcome Santolina. Let us know when we can help. P.S. Love your slippers (and your home page)!
  22. We were changing some code on the forum so there was a temporary hick-up
  23. youneverknow: We recently discussed Google bombing in the thread Does A Internal Page Link Affect Ranking? (a slight tangent to the original question ) Well you are not alone with these feelings. There are several threads here expressing the same dissatisfaction / frustration. The November algo certainly did shake things up and most of us do not like change. Some of this change actually was for the good though. A lot of the affiliate-type sites were removed from their dominance (over-optimized commercial sites). Actually, a lot more 'directory' type sites are showing up in the SERPs which argue against 'very commercial' results. Google is still tweaking (and will always be modifying) their algorithm so I believe things will get better. It also worth noting that smarter searching will aid in retrieving desired results. We discussed some helpful search hints in Anybody Else Confused About Google? (you can tell by the title of the thread that you are indeed not alone ). At the bottom of the post starting with "Good discussion! Relevancy (in terms of a search result): close logical relationship (and importance to) the searchers request." there are some search suggestions that you may find helpful.
