    First thing, your enquiry into automated SEO software:

     

    It checks your website and lets you know what changes need to be made and after you make them it submits them to about 55 engines. Comes with a rather large manual on what and what not to do for getting your site good rankings. From somebody who does this for a living, what are your thoughts on this kind of software?

     

    I am not a fan of automated software and neither are the search engines. Comes with a rather 'large manual'.

     

    Rob: In the writings offered here at TotalChoice Hosting is a wealth of good information, seriously. In other words, use the resources that we offer here. Take the money that you were going to spend and send it to Head Guru (have it ear marked for Scott's New Truck :D

     

    Now on to knifes and blades (not in any particular order):

     

    1. Move your title tag to just below your <head> tag.

     

    2. First words of your title should be the first words of your description (but overall different wording from your title) and first keywords which should be your most important phrase (which leads me into the next comment).

     

    3. Do keyword analysis....

     

    Read (or re-read) the following:

     

    Keyword Phrases

     

    Keyword Analysis

     

    4. Spend time getting sites to link to your yours. This will involve creating a resources page which will contain links to other sites (we call this reciprocal links).

    Not sure of the 'rules' in this forum. If specifics and/or Manufactures are not proper, please delete this thread. If not, I would love two - five cents worth from everyone.

     

    Background on use:

     

    Dreamweaver MX (some pretty intense graphics) and database work (again, some pretty large). I do programming in various languages but that is not real demanding of resources. I would like to get heavy into flash, which would be demanding.

     

    I also would like multiple monitors that would allow me to multitask easier.

    Is there such thing as to many keywords?

     

    Most definitely.... YES. Actually most people (and SEO 'experts') use too many. You can dilute the importance of your critical words by including non-critical selections.

     

    Your site is a tough call... I did not 'look' into keywords for you but in thinking about how to narrow to an ideal phrase or two is going to be tough I think. That is really what you want... I phrase or two. It is very difficult to go after top rankings for a whole slew of phrases, actually impossible if the phrases have any competitiveness.

    What I am saying, on your home page get rid of:

    Leave it in the header for all your other pages because it is obviously convient, just not on the home page.

     

    Does that mean the PayPal and other affiliate links as well??

    Yes, especially the other affiliate links. Can you not create another page for those? Concerning PayPal, I think that most people that would donate would do so after reviewing the site (i.e. they would be on the 'other' pages). Therefore, not having that on the home page would not adversely affect donations (I think).

     

    Does all make sense now? [notice I spoke in 'shorter' font] :D :D

    5. Get rid of the weather link. Too many outbound links, seven for weather.com.... do a smell a scam? Cleaver folks there at weather.com. There are alternatives that create instant weather and less outbound links (search google).

    Added Site A While Back

    Is there a logical reason for this that I am just not seeing?

     

    There is a reason but I am not sure it is 'logical'.

     

    This last Google dance (which ended 5/25) was very strange. It took an exceptionally long time and the results are quite strange. One result looks like they have regressed back to an old index.... this would explain noticeable lack of backlinks that many people have seen.

     

    There was talk that this dance was going to be different (major tweaking of the algorithm). My theory is that they had some problems (major) and that is why they had to regress to old data.

     

    Do not read anything negative in that statement... I love Google :) . The fact that they are always experimenting, changing, improving, etc. is one reason why. This should all work out within the next dance (approx. one month).

    First of all let me state that I am completely ignorant of Trellix. I would be surprised that there exists a site development tool that would not allow you to see (and edit) the HTML directly. Please make sure that you can not.

     

    With regard to Meta tags, not essential but I highly recommend them.

    Submit your site to dmoz, AltaVista and MSN (the free submit). Google will pick you up when they find a link to you from another indexed page (e.g. TotalChoice Hosting Family Members page).

    If you want to post the code here... we can see it. To call a JavaScript in an html file is pretty simple.

     

    Example:

     

    In the head of your document define the location of your script:

    Then to call a function:
