Jack:
You are correct that their HTML is 'bad'. The section that they have prior to the /head tag is not contributing to there rank (I promise). It may be actually hurting their rank (or eventually shall).
However, they are utilizing sound SEO strategies that they are obviously benefiting from.
It is wise to examine pages that do rank high to 'see' what techniques are working (you do have to sift through the noise though).
Good luck.

That would be nice Raul... the more cookbook (i.e. easier) for our users the better.
Thank you.

I was unclear when you were first talking about the increase in traffic that it was all do to Google. This shows that by no means was it a 'coincidence'. Thumbs Up
No something I find interesting is that AWStats says my most common key phrase is a word yet ranks 8th most common out of the key words. Not sure I understand what you are saying here... sorry, a bit tired tonight.
Generally speaking, a phrase means more then one word. However, when we are talking of keyword phrases, you will have single words that are searched (e.g. hosting and web hosting are two keyword phrases).
It is interesting to evaluate what phrases are used by individuals who view your site. You have to be careful though. If your site is not optimized for a certain phrases then they may never appear in the logs. What if the 'best' phrases for your site fall under this category? You would never know that they were looking and they would never find you. Make sense?
It is this strange situation in which you have to determine what 'they' want as opposed to convincing them what the want (traditional marketing).
Read or reread Internet Marketing: Have things changed?. It really is a different ballgame and thus requires a different mind set.

Ok, I am still learning. I am sure that the number in that bar and my site more than doubling visitors is more than a coincidence right?
Yes, I would believe so. Check your stats though, it should confirm the 'association'. Look at your Google search leads... did they increase?
I would bet they did which would confirm that it is indeed more the coincidence. Also, check out which phrases were used... this will give you some idea how you might tweak your site in the future.
Good job Rob Thumbs Up

I see a bar, not a number...
Place your mouse over the bar

Ok, there are some nice scripts on the web which create easy to manage link farms but the links are all like "Http://www.mywebsite.com/links/linkpage.htm?cat=id34"
No, this 'type' of link will not give credit to the corresponding page (I call these indirect links). This style is used to minimize the affect of outbound links but still 'offering a link back'.... offering a link back that is worthless.
As Jack states... any method that artificially enhances link popularity by such a strategy is very dangerous. Avoid any form of link farms... any!
If caught... the penalty is removal from the index.

Deverill has a very good point... PageRank (PR) is not synonymous with page rank.
There are many examples of sites with lower PR as compared to other sites but still rank higher in the search engine results. Meaning there is more to rank then just PR.
However, it is also true that a properly optimized site will have both high PR and top ranking. Meaning that if a site with higher PR actually ranks lower in the ranking pages, somebody has not done a good job.

Jack:
No, this is not 'cheating'.
NONE of this stuff is visible in the browserActually it is visible... scroll down on the page. Someone who knows something about SEO has worked on this site. This probably was a visual site only and an SEO person said 'we need to get some body text on the index page' (which is what I would have said). One way to do this is they way they choose.... most people do not read it (or even see it) but it is there and spiders will pick it up.
I have no problem with this strategy (under their circumstance).
Make sense?

Your site has been added to our Nonprofit and Informational Sites page.
SEO thoughts (random order):
1. You have multiple <head> tags
2. ... and title tags.
3. ... and body tags.
4. Use alt tags on all images (use keywords).
5. <title>Really Dumb Stuff - Your Source For Stupidity and Other Dumb Things</title>
6. <meta name="description" content="Really Dumb Stuff is a comprehensive list of the dumbest sites on the Internet.">
7. <meta name="keywords" content="dumb,really dumb,dumb sites, stupid sites,
boring sites,boring websites,dumb websites,really dumb websites,really dumb news,reallydumbstuff.com">
The best advice I can give you is to get your code cleaned up; bad code can prevent you from being indexed.
Good luck.

The academy site has been added to our Nonprofit and Informational Sites page.
SEO thoughts (random order):
You are in the Google index Thumbs Up
You are number one for 'lighthouse daycare' and 'lighthouse christian academy' Thumbs Up
Now the question is what keyword phrase is going to be the best for individuals that do not 'know' Lighthouse Christian Academy. Real research is required to answer such a question but I can tell you 'daycare' is pretty big. Having said that, I think that 'key west daycare' might be a reasonable phrase.
Therefore:
Title: Key West Daycare - Lighthouse Christian Academy
Description (something like this): Key West Daycare decision? Lighthouse Christian daycare can make it easy.
Keywords: Key West daycare,Christian academy,Christian daycare,daycare,daycare centers,child care,lighthouse"
Other thoughts:
1. Use alt tags on all your images (keywords).
2. Always spell out 'Lighthouse Christian Academy' (especially on the home page).
3. <b> tag all instances of 'Lighthouse Christian Academy'
4. If you can, use the phrase 'key west daycare' in the body text (e.g. Lighthouse Christian Academy, a Key West Daycare).
Hope this helps.

Well don't know about 'really' cool but his kids do call him 'gifted' occasionallyYeah, I hear that there is a really cool and gifted guy doing those evals! You said 22 linkbacks... is that to the lcachildcare.com site? I just entered link:www.lcachildcare.com and got nothing back. Is there another way to check?Try +www.lcachildcare.+com in the search string.

Are the "key pages" the main pages for a particular sub-theme or are they important pages outside that sub-theme?
Yes and yes. Hard to give specifics because it truly depends on each site. Some sites may only have one 'theme' thus the key page would be the home page.
Other sites that have multiple themes, product categories, unique content, etc. would have a tree structure with each 'theme' being a primary page. Yet, all pages would point back to the home page.

Welcome man from the South (we are not talking Alabama here)... look forward to your now 'official' posts.

Digirunt:
Welcome back and I hope you enjoyed all your travels. In addition, kudos on your new job... has to make you feel good!
Regarding our signatures, Our signatures are a way to feed 'relevancy' to certain pages within our main site (as Mike said).
Therefore to answer your question:
Yes, internal structure (all internal links within a site) is very important. One should cluster pages within general themes. Key pages should be the recipient of links from all the various theme pages. Thus giving hierarchical structure to the site, resulting in hierarchical 'relevancy'....but do links to your own site from your own site bear as much relevancy?Make sense?

Josh:
I just looked in my source file and could not find them either
Sorry, I cannot help you. Remember that this stats feature is located gloabally on the server (i.e. not specific to your site). Therefore, AWstats has global settings which can not be changed individually... this might be the case here.
Again, sorry I did not help.

Oh, sorry Nat forgot to address your first question.
This is actually quite involved but, one way you can at least see how some people are using phrases: Overture- Search Term Suggestion Tool. How would you go about determining what phrases would be most important? This should help.
-
Deverill:
Actually lately Google has been notorious for not dancing... sore feet or something!
Google does not consider all backlinks relevant. There are actually 22 pages within Google's index that contain a link to your site. Relevancy means many different things but in this case, it really is referring to a PageRank threshold of PR3 (i.e. a page less the PR3 does not 'count').
My suggestion to you... Add your site to the family and ask for an evaluation
-
Nat:
To your questions,
1. I like to keep a description concise, descriptive and keyword rich. Remember that the more 'words' you use, the less each individual word becomes important (I call this dilution).
[that is a good one, a description should be descriptive ]
2. There is a lot of evidence that strongly suggests that spiders do not index framed sites as well as non-framed. You will have many people argue this point but the evidence (i.e. ranks) speak for themselves.
3. Regarding PageRank Bleed.
First, thanks Deverill for your explanation. You can read our elaboration on Google's PageRank. In addition, review link structure.
Think of it this way: a given page has a specific quantity of 'credit' it can give another page. All of that 'credit' can be passed to one page or divided up into numerous pages. Now think in terms of a 'site'. Generally, your home page has the highest PageRank (PR). Do you want distribute that PR to other pages within your own site or squander it to external pages? Squandering it to external pages (pages outside of your own site) is what I am referring to as 'bleeding PageRank'.
Make sense?
Hope this helps. If further explanation is needed.... we are here!

Jack will be honest and tell you that I did not dig extensively (I try to focus on just the home page with this kind of evaluation). I only pulled up one page (which one?) and saw that it had identical tags. Sorry that I did not note which one.You mentioned different meta tags for each page... I think I'm already doing that. The shoemaker's children go barefoot.Oh how true!

I have changed the TCH link as per your suggestion.
Thank you.

Dan you have been added to our Extended Family - Personal Sites page.
SEO Evaluation:
You are not in the Google index... can I assume this is a new site?
Your description meta tag is too long. Try to make it one complete, concise sentence containing your most important keywords.
I would remove the entire 'viewing considerations' section... remember, every word you add to your page dilutes the importance of all the other words (i.e. concise is best).
You have an empty style tag:
<style type="text/css"></style>
You might also want to remove all your blank lines (within your code).
The site looks good (comment beyond SEO view) and you have done the basic optimization techniques. Developing more external links will help increase PageRank... you added a new one tonight!
Good luck.
