sometimes the obvious answers are the hardest to find
and you are right, it may not be an option for reason we can't see from way over here

Why not move the Cable Modem and/or access point to a spot that will be more in the "middle" of your network, so it will be able to wirelessly reach them all. There is no rule that says the access point has to sit beside the PC. The issue would be how much cable you have to move the cable modem.
When I had my cable modem installed I had the guys add extra cable so I could move it elsewhere if needed. You could also purchase more cable and an extender or splitter.

bellringr, sorry to say that most of the computers I fix for friends, I end up returning to fix later...its a no-win world now-adays
. I even find crap on my sons computers and I clean them once a week.
If you haven't tried yet reboot the computer into safe mode and run all those programs. Sometimes things are not removed or detected because they are hidden or in use.

2) Copy both adresses in to notepad and with using same font compare if l (small L) can be a 1 for instance.
what I used to do is find an old log and cut and paste one name on top of one another, two lines, in WRITE or NOTEPAD and the highlight both and change the font. I would use the WINGDINGS font since that font had distinct characters with no repeats or similar characters. I could easily find the changed characters this way.
What I would suggest to folks in IRC to avoid this is to use nicknames without these characters in them. The "i" and "L" and "1" are the worse and the alpha o and numeric 0 next. They would also combine letters to confuse folks, two "v" put together look like a "w" and you put a "pipe" (|) on each end of a v to make an "M".
VV or |V| O
W or M 0

What is probably going on is a Major network outage. I understand there was something going on in the Northeast a short time ago, a major line was cut and caused lots of troubles.
-
Are you absolutely, positively CERTAIN thats its the same name. I know I have had trouble with chat names in the Older Prodigy Classic chat and in IRC with similar names.
They substitute letters that are very close in appearrance like the uppercase i and lowercase L and sometimes numeric 1. So "BiLL" can be BIll or B1ll or bl|| and when using the fonts in these chat programs you can not tell the difference easily.

ok...I found a disk that had a product key sticker on it, and the number worked. But the disk is a trial for Office Student & Teacher edition, Works 7.0 w/Money and Encarta.
Ok, one of those "package" deals I spoke of, but this is more of a try and buy deal and it will self destruct after a specified time.
It has Works which maybe all you need.
-
The Product key you found on the back of the computer was probably for the Operating System and is the reason it is not working for the Office installation.
I would contact or talk to the place where you purchased the computer and find out where the "key" is located. Office isn't always included with computers unless you specially order it. They usually come with MS Works or another less expensive all-in-one package.
-
Are you sure you are using the right "product key". These are specific to the software "version" AND the Product. For instance you cannot use the product key for MS Office 2000 in MS Office XP. You also cannot use the MS Windows XP OS product key in the MS Office XP.

Your video card supports DFP maximum resolution Up to 1600x1200. Try setting your current resolution to 1280x1024 and retrying the avi. Will your monitor support that resolution?
And from what I know the video card and monitor is what determines what resolution you can achieve, not the CPU.

This versatile PC card works with either wireless standard, 802.11b or 802.11g, to keep you connected today and tomorrow. Put it in your notebook PC and no matter where you are,
Yes I see where this could be confusing, it was written by advertising writers who are not aware of computers.
When "I" see and use the term "PC", "I" think DESKTOP, not a Notebook or Laptop. When you look at network cards most say "PC card" for the Desktop and "Notebook card" for the Notebook. So I see how you are confused about this ad.
Being a Network guy, I looked at the picture and "I" see a Notebook card, you can tell the difference by looking at them.
BUT I would not put it past the ad folks of putting the wrong card in the picture either!
-
Alls you need to matchup are the wireless specs in the Laptop and the router and the desktop card. When you put the card in the desktop that will be the specs for the desktop
.
If the Laptop uses 802.11a for its wireless connection you need to look for a 802.11a router and PCI card for instance.
The card that came with the mwave was a PCMCIA card and that is not what you want. You want a PCI card.
PCI = Desktop card
PCMCIA = Laptop card
-
Madman, what she is looking at comes with a PCMCIA wireless card she can use in the laptop if the built-in wireless doesn't work
Yes I saw that and wasn't completely clear about it. I think she wants to save money and not have to buy both cards. The price for the kit includes the PCMCIA card which she may not need or want.
-
Ok, what you are looking at is a 802.11g router. Is it compatible with the wireless protocol in your laptop? And as Bruce pointed out you will still need to look at a card for your Desktop.
There are currently 3 standards for wireless connections, all start 802. and end with either 11a, 11b, or 11g with g being the newest. Now 11a is not compatible with 11b and 11g is sometimes compatible with one of the other 2 (11b I believe) so when you are looking you need to know what you have in the laptop if you are going to use the built-in wireless.

ummm, what link
-
Hi Tracy, there are lots of good Wireless companies and I found it mostly comes down to whats cheapest at the time you are buying. D-Link, Syslink, Netgear, Belkin all work about the same.
Speed of your Internet will not be an issue, the slowest wireless will be 11Mbps and cable speed never comes close to this speed.
If you are running out of USB ports get an Internal PCI wireless card. And be prepared to get a PCMCIA card for the laptop, the built in wireless doesn't always work with the systems you purchase.
Security, depending on your OS you may end up more secure than you are without. The wireless routers normally come with what is called "NAT" which acts as a firewall and protects you from the outside world.
-
Hi Nat, this company was my old companies major competitor and I hate to give business to them
. Try Nielsen Ratings. Now they are a business and they may or maynot have what you are looking for, and if they do it may cost way more than you can afford. But its worth a look.

And you might be able to find something at my old company, my wife still works there.

Joly, FYI
your sub-domain is:
purrcity.my-birman-noelle.com
www.my-birman-noelle.com/purrcity is a sub-folder under your main domain. If you do not define a sub-domain this is how you access it.
Once you have defined it as a sub-domain both ways will work.

LOL, hopefully one will work and life will return to normal. Now it may not be all that bad, as Bruce suggested you can also recover the programs by simply reinstalling them, the data is still there and can be accessed once the programs work again.
The problems will be if you have programs that you do not have the original installation disks for...thats when you run for cover.
-
Hi Vi, thats a tough one since you restored an old one...and I am not sure how you restored it.
But, see if one of these help.

Ok, so now we know where the TCH banner came from, it followed the links as an advertisment. The next question is why they thought they purchased hosting from TCH and actually didn't.
My "guess" is that once you complete the Domain purchase you are left with a screen that still retains the TCH stuff but has an icon for an option to select "Web Hosting" and when selected takes you to another hosting company yet still keeps the TCH name laying around as we see in the screen shots.
Yes, very confusing!
