  1. I received the same sort of email. The email stated: Luckily, I checked the forum prior to clicking on any link.
  2. I'm actually surprised that "networksolutionssucks" wasn't already taken.
  3. Thanks, Bruce, that works and told me what I wanted to know.
  4. Recently, my site was moved to the TCH-NOC. When I used to log in to Cpanel, the identity of the server would be displayed at the top, e.g. 43. Now that the server has been changed, I don't see any indication on Cpanel as to the name of the server. Is there somewhere else this information is available?
  5. I was browsing the details of my account and came across these assignments in the domain control panel: According to the nameservers page, the name servers should be ns1... and ns2... only if your domain is parked. My domain is not parked, but has hosting via TCH. If the domain is hosted, the name servers should be dns3... and dns4... So, now I'm wondering if my name server settings are correct. Everything seems to work and the domain name points to the correct files, but it seems as though the name servers are set for a parked account. Am I interpreting this correctly?
  6. I have not seen any mention of this problem on the forum, so I'm wondering if I'm the only one affected. Yesterday, email retrieval via POP3 using my email client began to fail with timeouts. I opened a help desk ticket and was told that a temporary problem with the POP3 mail had been fixed. But I continued to have the problem. Following a second communication with the help desk, the problem was resolved. Then this afternoon, the same problem is back, with timeouts in the email client on attempting to retrieve email. Anyone else experiencing this problem? - Dan
  7. There are sites where it is legal and safe to download TV series and movies. Namely, the iTunes Music Store. www.apple.com/itunes
  8. I frequent many of the photography forums, and this issue comes up over and over. There's no solution. As long as an image is displayed on my screen, I can copy it, either directly, via my cache, or as a screen shot. The general consensus on the photog forums is to use one or more of the following: 1. a watermark 2. low resolution images 3. as small a size as possible The intent is to make it as inconvenient as possible for someone to use an image for their own purposes. If the image is relatively small and of low resolution, they will not be able to print it out with any quality. Also removing a watermark with Photoshop or equivalent, while not impossible, is usually time consuming. Remember in school when someone misbehaved, and the teacher could not find out who? The entire class got punished. Not much changes!
  9. I switched to Windows because my wife's business needed to use Windows and compatibilty between OS's was not at the current level. I supported both OS's for about 3 years, but finally became tired of doing that, so in 1996, I switched to Windows myself. My wife still uses a WinXP computer, but in 2004 I finally said enough and, for my personal/business computer, went back to the Mac. Now two years later I'm not at all sorry.

  11. Thank you very much for the additional explanation. Although this was not my question, I may need the information in the future.
  12. Having only one drive pretty much negates the purpose of doing a backup. If your hard drive dies, you lose both the original data and the backup. You will need some type of secondary device to perform a backup, whether the backup is to contain just your data files or the entire hard drive. If you want to backup just the data files, then depending on the number and size of the files, you could use a floppy, USB flash drive, CD drive, hard drive, or online backup. To make a clone of the entire hard drive, you will usually need another hard drive, either internal or external. There are some good deals now on USB/firewire external hard drives.
  13. Another vote for Acronis True Image. Easy to use, reliable, and fast. Second copy is not for cloning hard drives. It is for backing up individual files on a regular basis to a second device. A wonderful program, but I don't think it is what you are looking for.
  14. Well, if that's the best you can do, I guess it will be okay.
  15. Thank you, Bruce, that worked perfectly. I was able to sign in and view my account and the payment settings. I appreciate your help.
  16. But where is the menu structure for managing the account online? I can't find it under the menus on the main site. I will submit a help ticket and ask about my current status. Thanks
  17. TCH's hosting services are great, but their online managment of your hosting account is poor. For example, how does one manage their hosting account online? If I want to change a credit card or find out the date of renewal, apparently I have to send a help ticket, because I cannot find where to do it online. I can manage domain name registration online. If the hosting service is manageable online, it's hidden somewhere in the depths of a menu. I've had my hosting account with TCH for about 3 years, and I have not seen any improvement in online account management. That's been somewhat disappointing, given TCH's otherwise excellent hosting service.
  18. Thanks. One of the reasons I ask this question is because on my Cpanel page, the banner at the top of the page says Cpanel X. The URL that leads to the Cpanel says bluelagoon, however. I'm not sure which one I actually have. I'll send a note to the help desk and ask them to make sure I have the X panel.
  19. Does anyone know where to find a list of what Cpanel skins are available from TCH? Anyway to change the skin without submitting a help ticket? Seems like such a trivial use of the help desk's time and effort.
  20. Thanks for the replies. Must be something going on with the corporate firewall (as usual).
  21. I'm at work and cannot access Cpanel. Can someone tell me if they are able to access www.docbrown.com. I have been unable to from work this morning. The server states that it is operational. Thanks
  22. Now this is weird. If I enter www.tchstatus.com into Safari, I get the message: Safari can’t open the page “http://tchstatus.com/” because it could not connect to the server “tchstatus.com”. But if I enter the same URL into Firefox, the web page opens normally.
  23. The www.tchstatus.com link seems to be dead.
  24. I know you mentioned that you are doing this yourself with Dreamweaver, but if you will check out Arles Web Page Creator, version 6, at www.digitaldutch.com, you will see that it will allow you to do exactly what you are describing. It will set up nested galleries with a main navigation page. Then each gallery can be edited to have the layout as you wish.
  25. The "FAQ" link on the help site: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/help/index.htm links to an error page: http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/help/faqs.html even thought the URL has faqs in the title, it's not a FAQ page.
