  1. Hello, huuuuh what an ordeal... like others I got caught by the issue after receiving 2 contradictory email notifications since yesterday.

As I couldn't login to my account today, I decided to call UK tech support via: 020 3027 4996 (phone number displayed on the TCH securepay.net page) which for some reason seems to have landed me @ DomainsPricedRight support).

After giving all security details and explaining that I received 2 emails, one yesterday saying that all my domains were transferred to DomainsPricedRight and one today saying the exact opposite (that all my domains were transferred to TCH) and because I wasn't able to connect to my account via TCH securepay.net URL, the person I spoke to told me that from now on I should use the DomainsPricedRight's URL which indeed accepted all my login details. At this point I could login fine.

Well as 4 of my domains were close to expiration, tech support asked me if I would like him to renew them for me and although I hesitated, I went ahead with the idea.

I am now very concerned that, although I believe the transaction was genuine (status of these domains now marked as renewed in my account), I would hate to see all my domains transferred for good to DomainsPricedRight (which I have never heard of before) especially when TCH domains management service has always been second to none and very professional.

Please advise on the procedure to follow (if any) to ensure that my domains are returned to TCH in due course.

Thanks in advance for your time.

    Montty

Edit: Worst still, I have now noticed that the renewal was more expensive (by $4.16)

Although not a big difference I am not very happy - especially when considering the 2 hours I have lost chasing all this and the nasty feeling of having been stitched:

    2 .com domain @ $10.17

    2 .net domains @ $15.17

    Total (USD): $50.68

Edit 2: Login is now possible again via the TCH page.

  2. The same happened to me the other day I went to my cPanel forwarder sections to only find out that they had all vanished... Wonder what could have happened. :)

No big deal in my case, I only have a handfull and could remember them all. ;)

For what its worth, although it might only be a coincidenece, this seems to have happen roughly around the same time one of the webmail system was removed from cPanel (don't remember the name)... Could this be the "errant" script mentioned about earlier in the post? ;)

Anyhow repaired for me now but I am going to watch it more closely from now on.

  3. in line 16 get rid off the colspan="2" parameter.

    in line 32 change

    ><td>

    to

    ><td width="enter any convenient value in pixel here">

    in line 39 cut

    ><td class="body"> </td>

and paste it after Line 36

    ><p><a href="#">Link5</a></p></td>

And you should have everything back in order.

To make it better, after finishing all the modifs above, in line 37 you could replace   by another table with a a width of 100%. This table will then be used as your basis structure to handle the body of your page without interfering with your top table (structure table).

(I believe this should be working in all major browsers but didn't test it)

    Hope this help!!

  4. From TCH-Steve:

Whenever a tech has looked at a problem, the ticket becomes closed. It's not a "door slam", but just how the software works.

I sure shall remember this one!! :)

Thank you TCH-Steve for underlining the fact - Very helpfull indeed!!

Actually, for the sake of learning, and for everyone which like me might have been through the "Default error page loss", I would love to know if this problem could have been sorted by myself (being on a shared server) and if so how?

Again thank you to everyone :)

  5. A good night sleep always helps :)

Please accept my apologies for my somewhat lousy explanation if this was the case

Everything is now back to normal :)

Although, to come back on Bill's comment, I would like to highlight this.

As you are aware, I am not on tech support every and each time I have a tiny problem, I normally try to deal with them myself (as long as they are within my reach or accessible to me).

This being said, while submitting my ticket and before that ticket reached the tech, a FAQ page with answers to common problems appeared, on this page a section explaining how to modify the .htaccess to redirect to custom error page was present, I read it but decided to go ahead with the ticket as this wasn’t the answer I was looking for (if that had been the case, trust me I would have acted accordingly and not bothered to disturb tech support which I believe had probably more important issues to deal with)

After a few minutes Abdul came back to me with supposedly the problem sorted out and like you I thought wow as usual those guys are so efficient and quick… Amazing!!

Although after trying and checking that everything was back as before, it wasn’t and the tech had done exactly what was suggested in the FAQ… Lets face it, I am far to be a guru but as I was insisting about this problem claiming that his change(s) weren’t what I was looking for (confirmed by comparing my.htaccess and Public_html backup), maybe at this point Abdul should have taken my “badly explained” point into consideration and try to look deeper into it instead of slamming the door in my face (by closing the ticket) which I thought, was a bit off!!

Anyhow no harm done, I will try next time to be a bit more thorough in my explanations!!

Thank you to all the people involved for their patience & dedication in trying to sort out this tiny problem especially to TCH_RobertM for his extreme courtesy and extreme attention as well as to Head Guru for taking the matter into his hands to make sure their customer is happy and I am!! :)

  6. Hello TCH RobertM,

Thank you very much for your reply,

I have now submited a ticket and one of the tech slaped a quick solution back at me which is working but do not seem to be working the same way as before and certainly do not suit my requirements specialy when he suggested that, to make it work properly, I should design my own error pages. I have now a blank page with the message "Wrong Page" in it. :excl:

    Form the Tech:

Just edit the 404.html present in your public_html directory and add what ever page you want to have.

    And closed the ticket

I must admit that I am bit disapointed here... as I have been highlighthing to this technician , it feels a bit odd that after beeing with TCH for more than a year I never had to do anything about Error pages, when a link failed the visitor was sent to a default error page (i.e.h**p://www.oscommerce.info/o) explaining the situation.. Where are these gone?

Also the technician has actually modified my public_html .htaccess by adding:

ErrorDocument 404 http://www.aticka.com/404.html to it and created a 404.html in the Public_html folder.

Ok fair enough but after checking the same .htaccess file from my full backup (made the day before the crash) I can't see such a thing as redirect to 404 pages or any redirect to error pages for that matter and the same apply to the 404.html page he created which do not exist in this level either in my backup. :shocking:

Does this also means that I will need to create a new page for every other errors? This must be a joke!! :)

I have reopen the ticket explaining the situation in great detail... But until now I haven't had a reply... I believe that you are busy and also understand that this matter has no extreme urgency... Still I would be gratefull if this little problem could be looked into it when it is more convenient to allow the return of the default error pages without the hurddle of having to create new one from scratch and also without having to add anything into the .htaccess to redirect to them.

-Unless I am proved wrong, it was not needed before it shouldn't be needed now-

Really I am sorry for the rant but this time I feel that tech support didn't live up to expectation and trust that we will find a very fine solution soon to sort this problem out.

    Thank you again.

  7. Hello,

I am not sure this is the right forum to post this, please move it accordingly and accept my apologies for the trouble.

Since the HD crash on S40 the other day the normal error 404 page has now being replaced by the following page when linking to a non existing page or clicking on a broken link:

    http://server40.totalchoicehosting.com/404.shtml

The page displays a cPanel maintenance message on a cPanel colored page:

    "cPanel Maintenance Notice

We are currently experiencing server issues. Our hosting company is working as quickly as possible to get our site back up. Please check back soon."

I find really odd that the cPanel Backup maintenance only appears when trying to access a broken link or a non existing page whilst there is no such maintenance announcement when accessing my cPanel page!! :)

Any ideas on how to get back the normal error 404 page?

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

  8. Hello,

Thank you very much for your announcement and as usual for your quick response to the problem.

I have actually submited a ticket prior to come to the forum and discover the news about the problem.

Obvioulsy this ticket is now irrelevant and I would be grateful if you could cancel it...

Please accept my apologise for the trouble.

Thanks again for keeping us in the picture.

    As usual TCH Rocks!!

  9. @Don

Hehe like you I tend to be very suspicious about this kind of results, although, I must admit that testing it with other big domains didn’t come to my mind - duuuh!! :D - silly me!

On the other hand, I found these results interesting as they could maybe help highlight possible tiny issues on TCH side of things (I am thinking about Warnings 1,2,4 & 5). Of course, I am not implying that there are problems within TCH settings. :whip:

    @Rob

No worries, I know that a few big changes have landed on your professional life and that you are extremely busy taking over your new appointment – Such a great news – Congrats again :w00t:

I look forward for more regarding what to do about the SPF record thinggy...

If ever it is necessary to do something about it of course. No rush though :cool2:

Anyhow once more time, TQ to both of you for your input and piece of mind

  10. Huuum not much activities on this one... ;)

Anyhow regarding SPF (Warning 6) and for those like me which are totally baffled by all these (anti or not) Spam headackes and regulations, I found a few interesting pages including a great thread on this forum:

    An introduction to SPF

What is this SPF record thing?

HOWTO - Define an SPF Record

Now regarding the huge silence on warnings 1,2,4,5 for my domain, is it correct to assume that they are no matter of concerns? :P

    TQ again :)

  11. Hello everyone,

After submiting aticka.com to dnsreport.com the page returned with the following warning messages:

Here is the list of the litigious areas and their explanations (as returned by dnsreport.com):

    1- SOA REFRESH value

WARNING: Your SOA REFRESH interval is : 28800 seconds. This seems a bit high. You should consider decreasing this value to about 3600-7200 seconds. RFC1912 2.2 recommends a value between 1200 to 43200 seconds (20 minutes to 12 hours, with the longer time periods used for very slow Internet connections; 12 hours seems very high to us), and if you are using DNS NOTIFY the refresh value is not as important (RIPE recommends 86400 seconds if using DNS NOTIFY). This value determines how often secondary/slave nameservers check with the master for updates. A value that is too high will cause DNS changes to be in limbo for a long time.

    2- SOA EXPIRE value

WARNING: Your SOA EXPIRE time is : 3600000 seconds. This seems a bit high. You should consider decreasing this value to about 1209600 to 2419200 seconds (2 to 4 weeks). RFC1912 recommends 2-4 weeks. This is how long a secondary/slave nameserver will wait before considering its DNS data stale if it can't reach the primary nameserver.

    3- Multiple MX records

WARNING: You only have 1 MX record. If your primary mail server is down or unreachable, there is a chance that mail may have troubles reaching you.

4- Mail server host name in greeting

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers may be claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). This probably won't cause any harm, but may be a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1).

aticka.com claims to be host server40.totalchoicehosting.com.

    5- Acceptance of domain literals

WARN: One or more of your mailservers does not accept mail in the domain literal format (user@[0.0.0.0]). Mailservers are technically required RFC1123 5.2.17 to accept mail to domain literals for any of its IP addresses. Not accepting domain literals can make it more difficult to test your mailserver, and can prevent you from receiving E-mail from people reporting problems with your mailserver. However, it is unlikely that any problems will occur if the domain literals are not accepted.

    aticka.com's postmaster@[63.247.77.69] response:

        >>> RCPT TO:<postmaster@[63.247.77.69]>

        <<< 501 : domain literals not allowed

    6- SPF record

Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from your domain, which can make your domain look bad (if the recipient thinks you really sent it), and can cost you money (when people complain to you, rather than the spammer). You may want to add an SPF record ASAP, as 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records in place (Hotmail, for example, started checking SPF records on 01 Oct 2004)

Not that I am really worried about these, I still would love to have the opinion of the TCH gurus on how to deal with them if they are of concerns.

I must admit that the last warning regarding the lack of SPF records has been ringing a few loud Alert bells. :lol2:

This seems to be a very recent prerequisite though (01/10/04), which I missed (and I am sure many others have as well). Nonetheless, for my sake and the sake of others reading this, it would be great to know if there are any known issues with TCH before recording domains to the SPF.

Thank you in advance for any inputs on these matters. :)

  12. As Raul Said, Visual Studio is quite costy but heyyyy, there is some hope at the end of the tunnel B)

Microsoft will be releasing a reduced version of it cornerstone Visual C++ package, under the name of C++ 2005 Express sometime next year.

This edition is targeted at beginners, hobbyists and/or enthusiasts, it is right now in beta stage and is available for anyone to download for free.

After reading a few reviews and differents forums comment on this very exciting forthcoming edition, it appears that Microsoft has done a huge effort in term of compliancy and some seem to emphasise that the IDE is now one of the best, if not the best available. Also Microsoft has announced that pricing will be very low, actually some even forecast that it might be free - huuum - time will tell. :)

I haven't yet had a chance to try it yet but eager to do so asap. ;)

Even if the Express Edition is reduced somehow compared to the "normal" version, it seems to offer enough horse power and facility to anyone willing to dive deeply into the arcanes of Windows C++ programming (Again, based on what I could grasp from beta testers and/or user reviews/comments).

Now, out of the Microsof sleeve ;), here is another free alternative in the name of

Dev-C++. I never used it myself but read a lot of good about it.

Also, I haven't been following the INs and Outs of Borland C++ Builder and do not know anymore what they are up too (I own V5), still their IDE/and compliler was in my view the most attractive on the market due to its ease of use, number of features and compliance with C++ Standard. The IDE is not Free though, but I think the compiler is - still don't take my word for it ;)

And to finish here is a link where you will find more info on all the availble free compilers.

    Hope this help a little,

Good luck and let us know how you get on. :)

  13. the most common is having an insecure formail script that spammers can exploit

Huuum scratch scratch, I would be quite gratefull if one could develop this a bit more

Any description/example of what is/are exploitable formmail(s) and how to secure it/them would be greatly appreciated :)

I would dread to think that my freshly opened site could be banned just because, by lack of knowledge, I haven't close the door(s) properly. :whip:

    TQ in advance
