I recently updated my local server (WAMP) and it installed MySQL 5.7.14. That has some additional restrictions to the mysql_mode that were not in MySQL 5.6 and it meant that many of my queries failed. I can use SET SESSION sql_mode in my connection script to fix this.
All of the TCH servers that I have sites on are still using version 5.6 so they all run fine.
Are there any plans or schedules for upgrading the MySQL versions to 5.7? It would be nice to know in advance, if possible.

Thank you, Dick. If this comes up in the future, it would be best to make it clear and bold in the second email that it was a change to the migration plan, and not just a reminder. Since I had already changed my records and sent the notices to my site users about their email addresses, I saw "reminder" and thought "Oh, I've already taken care of that." It was just by chance that I happened to see the server name "moosehead" and didn't remember that one in all the previous notices (and could not make a Star Wars connection!). If I had not, then when the change happened and I started getting frustrated emails from account users, I probably would not have been able to figure out what was going on for a long time.

Hey shoes, you don't get it. I already sent notices to the users of many sites on several servers that told them to change the server name portion of their email account addresses. That is apparently all wrong for some of them, but it is not clear which ones. Ever try to talk tech leery email users through the process of setting up email on their phone? How about doing that with 25 of them that I have already sent the wrong info to?
The email today said that it was a "reminder" when in fact it was completely different information with no indication that there had been a change. There was no way to know if even TCH knew that the info was different. As far as I knew TCH did not know about the inconsistent information and might have made a mistake that they needed to be alerted about.

YOU ARE SENDING INCONSISTENT INFO ABOUT MIGRATIONS.
JAN 3 mail:
old hostname :: toad.tchmachines.com
new hostname :: sixmile.tchmachines.com
old ip :: 208.76.80.202
new ip :: 198.38.77.51
JAN 12 email:
old hostname :: toad.tchmachines.com
new hostname :: moosehead.tchmachines.com
old ip :: 208.76.80.202 new ip :: 198.38.77.50
You must get this straightened out ASAP. It is not just TOAD server. I got inconsistent email info about JAGA also (is it to be SIXMILE or MOOSEHEAD?). I have sites on about eight servers. I had already sent notices about correcting SSL email account server addresses. THIS IS SERIOUS!!!
Please post or send a complete (and correct) list of all the migrations.

But wait, it gets worse...
The headers in the complaint that mailchannels.net sent me show the recipient's email only in coded form. i asked if it matched the address that I suspect is complaining and I got this reply:
"We unfortunately cannot reveal who complained or rejected your email. If you receive this type of rejection from us, it's possible you did nothing wrong. Email recipients frequently complain about legitimate messages."
THIS IS CRAZY! They are blocking emails because of a complaint that they know may not be legitimate and will not lift the block until the complaints stop for a period of time, but they will not say who the complaints are coming from so we can stop sending them email.

One of those nightmare days...
Suddenly all outgoing email from my domain was being blocked. Mailchannels.net said it was because of too many end user complaints. Tina at tech support forwarded me the log of complaints. It looks like 7 complaints from one recipient address. The recipient DOES want the emails and even requested them through our website. The theories are that 1) she is inadvertently marking them as spam or has some misconfigured auto filter installed that is doing this or 2) her email provider is mistakenly doing it.
Our all-volunteer nonprofit that rescues food that would go to waste and donates it to the regional food bank is paralyzed since we organize everything around the web site and emails. We do not spam. We send email only to our registered volunteers.
1) Seven complaints out of hundreds, even thousands over the last year, is too many?
2) One email recipient can bring down a whole website's email system to a halt?
3) There's no way for me to know about complaints until enough accumulate to trigger a block of the whole domain?
4) Neither TCH tech support nor mailchannels.net can clear the block and we must wait for some unknown period of time until the automatic routines decide that the complaints have stopped?
Meanwhile, I keep reloading my email and seeing all of the legitimate messages that are being unnecessarily blocked and nothing I can do about it.
There must be a better way to fight the spammers than this.

We are working on that now.
Looks fixed. Thanks!

Meltdown And Spectre Cpu Vulnerabilities
in Open Discussion

Do the newly reported Meltdown and Spectre CPU problems impact TCH server performance or vulnerability? Have they needed to be patched? I see that some cloud servers using Linux are reporting problems with the patches slowing things down. (Not that I have noticed any problem).
