  1. YAY that worked. For some reason I kept trying to use padding! DUH! LOL Thanks
  2. OK just in case this might be helpful to someone else, I found a way to declare the line height and I did is using this: line-height: 1em; >#leftcolumn{ float: left; width: 200px; /*Width of left column*/ line-height: 1em; margin-left: -840px; /*Set left margin to -(MainContainerWidth)*/ background: transparent; border-right-color: #BFA86D; border-right-style: solid; border-right-width: 1px; } Now my only issue is trying to figure out how to get a space between the right side navigation border and the top of the footer area border. If anyone has any idea how I can do this I'd appreciate finding out how to do it! Thanks again!
  3. OK! Looks like things are going much better. I used a JPEG instead of the PNG and changed some of the code about. Bob: the maincontainer height variable was not needed as it displayed fine w/o it. I have 2 other questions. 1 is about the left side navigation. How do I declare the pixel height of the nav links? I would like to space them closer together but when I try to do this: >#leftcolumn{ float: left; width: 200px; /*Width of left column*/ margin-left: -840px; /*Set left margin to -(MainContainerWidth)*/ background: transparent; border-right-color: #BFA86D; border-right-style: solid; border-right-width: 1px; line-height: 1.5em; } But it doesn't change the spaces to be closer. The CSS for the links in the nav is: >div#leftcolumn a:link {color: #6B2324; size: 16px; text-decoration: none; font-variant: small-caps; font-weight: bold } div#leftcolumn a:hover {color: #000059; size: 16px; text-decoration: underline; font-variant: small-caps; font-weight: bold} div#leftcolumn a:visited {color: #333333; size: 16px; text-decoration: none; font-variant: small-caps; font-weight: bold} Where do I declare the line height to affect this area? 2 is about the part where the left side right border of the navigation side div meets the footer top border. How can I make a 5 pixel space where the navigation side border meets the footer. I don't want the lines to look like they are joining. Thanks all for the help. I'm learning so much!
  4. Yes part of one. Now I just have to remove the top part and I'm thinking to do that I just delete ><div id="topsection"></div> and the corresponding CSS... I will let you know if it works! Do you think I should still make the maincontainer height: 100% ? Thanks Bob!
  5. ATTEMPT 2: Ok I went back to the base code I was using and just played with the header. I was able to get it to show, but it is covering over the other parts of the layout. See: >h##p://www.mbstia.com/iama/test3.htm Replace #'s with t's Ok so now I have to find a way to push everything down so it begins past the header. Would this have to do with the CSS for the top margin? I am really not sure as I'm new to using CSS purely for laying out a site. I am assuming I need to push the maincontainer down and will try that and see if it works.
  6. Dick, Thanks so much for posting a SC. It's very interesting that the image dissapeared. I have hosted the image on my site here at TCH and even changed it to JPEG and I got the same non-displaying image problem. See my post above for the way I was able to actually see the image... however the entire rest of the design is messed up and I can't figure out why since I only deleted the part of the code that refered to the map to make the header clickable: > usemap="Map"></a> <map name="Map"> <area shape="rect" coords="2,27,1008,432" href="http://www.inacoustic.com" target="_blank" alt="International Acoustic Music Awards"</map> Curious! LOL I am a bit stumped... but will keep trying to see what's going on. Thanks for being so helpful, as always!
  7. Ok this has become even more curious! I am now using a JPEG and I can see it in FF but not in IE 7. Is my CSS screwey? Here is the CSS and HTML that pertain to the masthead: HTML ><div class="masthead"><a href="http://www.inacoustic.com" target="_blank"> <img src="http://www.mbstia.com/iama/layout/IAMA-Header.jpg" alt="International Acoustic Music Awards" width="1020" height="356" border="0" usemap="Map"></a> <map name="Map"> <area shape="rect" coords="2,27,1008,432" href="http://www.inacoustic.com" target="_blank" alt="International Acoustic Music Awards"</map> </div> CSS >.masthead { width: 1020px; height: 350px; position: absolute; margin-left: -508px; left: 50%; top: 0px; background-image: url(http://www.mbstia.com/iama/layout/IAMA-Header.jpg); } The image for the header is now hosted on my site instead of Imageshack. I am very puzzled. Popup blocker is off and I also tried to turn my Firewall off just in case. Nada.... Any ideas? I am going nuts with this! LOL I will keep posting what I've tried. ATTEMPT 1: I went back and thought, hmmm, maybe it's the map I'm using to link the header to the home page that is causing the issue. So I changed the code thusly: HTML ><div class="masthead"><img src="http://www.mbstia.com/iama/layout/IAMA-Header.jpg" alt="International Acoustic Music Awards" width="1020" height="356" border="0 ></a></div> CSS >.masthead { width: 1020px; height: 350px; position: absolute; margin-left: -508px; left: 50%; top: 0px; background-image: url(http://www.mbstia.com/iama/layout/IAMA-Header.jpg); } CSS stayed the same. OK so now the header shows up, but making this changed totally hoses the design of the site and I lose the left side navigation for some reason as welll as the main column is now off and going past where I want it. See the test page here with the amended code: >h##p://www.mbstia.com/iama/test5.htm Replace #'s with t's
  8. What OS and version are you using? Just curious.
  9. It's strange you mention that. I've been having terrible problems with some of the main programs I use since the last XP update. IE is wonky, programs wonky. ZoneLabs got totally screwed up and they have a big warning on their page. I can't tell you how frustrated I am with Microcrap right now. I'm re-doing the layout trying to use JPEGs and hope that I can slice it so the layout works. Really frustrating!
  10. Dick, what version of IE are you using? Can you send me screenshots via email? I turned off pop-up blocker and my firewall, but still the same problem. Very odd indeed!
  11. Hmm this is very strange! I used a PNG to display this image for a MySpace design. It works fine in MySpace: >h##p://www.myspace.com/inacoustic The image does load a bit slow. Then what's funnier is it was actually working and then I changed some code. I'll have to re-trace my steps. There must be something in the Myspace code that makes it work that is not present in my web site code? I am not sure what since the masthead CSS and HTML are the exact same thing. It's coming off of the Imageshack hosting soon, I just had the gfx there to test the design as they are the ones used in the MS design. OK so now my question... why would the PNG display in IE at MySpace and yet not in IE on a page hosted w/ TCH? That makes no sense to me I'm confuzzled! EDIT OK just as a test I put the header image on my own space and still, it won't show up. So this must be a PNG issue, but why it works at MySpace and not on a regular web page is beyond me. Is there some CSS hack to ensure the display of PNG files, or must I resort to using a GIF for the header?
  12. Hi all, Just working on a design and I am stumped. I have a CSS layout that has a nice header in it and it shows up in Firefox but not IE. Link to test site: >h##p://www.mbstia.com/iama/test4.htm Replace ## with tt FF latest it works fine... (surprise, surprise). Any ideas how I can get the header to show in IE 7? Thanks!
  13. I just found a script: >h##p://www.earlyimpact.com/productcart/build_to_order/index.asp But it's $1,500 and it's more than what I need and it's ASP, so I'd have to get Windows hosting(?). Anyone know of anything similar in function that is OpenSource or cheaper or even a service? I've been combing the web and just can't find a thing! LOL Now I'm searching "product configurator software". I guess that is what I am searching for: product configuration... sort of like when you build a system at Dell or Gateway, except this is with songs and artwork.
  14. Hi Everyone! Been looking at some cart scripts and not finding what I need exactly, so thought I'd post here to see if anyone has insight... I would like to implement the purchase of custom CDs on my web site (my own songs). I am envisioning a process that is streamlined and fairly simple for an every day computer user. The needs are: User comes to web store User can pick and choose a certain number of songs to put on a custom made CD (lets say up to 15 songs per CD) User should be able to click a 'play' button at each song title to preview the music User will select songs and they will be added to Custom CD listing (the selections are stored to be sent to me to fulfill) User will select CD cover artwork from a pre-existing selection of 4 covers User will be able to title the CD any name they want (within a certain limit of characters) User will be able to enter in text for a personal autograph (within a certain limit of characters) User will check out securely using Paypal (right now it's set up for Website Payments Standard I think) All that data should be sent to to me so I can: 1.) Know what songs go on the CD, what artwork was selected, what CD title was selected and what personalization the customer wants 2.) The payment should be confirmed with matching the order to the Paypal receipt (so I know which Custom CD belongs to which customer) 3.) All shipping info should be sent to me so I can fulfill the order I would also like to add in single downloads to the store, and other merchandise will be added over time. I know I can do thsi with a cart like osCommerce, but I'm not so sure about the customized products (not sure how that would work) Do you think a cart like ZenCart, CubeCart or osCommerce can do this, or can it be done w/ one of these and some custom scripting? Or would I be looking at creating something totally new... and if so, where do I look to find someone who can do it? I've looked into also using a form that I build from my site, but the problem I see with doing it that way is that someone can submit the form, but not pay and also they could input different payment info in Paypal, so I would have no idea what Custom CD goes with what customer. I'm open to ANY ideas! Thanks so much for any insight you have!
  15. Oh Dick, no worries, I'll just bake you a fresh cake: Taaaa-daaaaa The move went great, Andy helped me out a lot with making sure scripts were running right again. Hail TCH staff for being the the best in the biz. Now I'm just buried in making my new album. I shall re-emerge when all is complete! LOL
  16. Oh, check the .htaccess.. i had to do some redirects b/c joomla has a weird problem.
  17. Hmmm Alex said it hadn't yet, but that was a few hours ago. I can't log in to my mbstia site. Also I'm having a very hard time actually getting to the site, it takes forever to load that one. I seem to generally be locked out of my Joomla sites even tho I changed configuration.php to add in localhost instead of the IP I was previously using. I am sure I must have done something wrong. I flushed as you said and I'm wondering if I should do anything else? Shut off and restart the router? Perhaps shut down and restart my PC? Thanks Andy!
  18. MY GOD! That man is amazing. I have never heard a voice besides Luciano Pavarotti's that was so full, rounded... full through all passagio... totally connected. What a voice! My gosh, he's amazing! Tears! Tears! Holy cow! So what happened with him? Did he do an album? OK i see his site... I am gonna spend some good time checking out what he has there!
  19. Oh I heard that some years ago. That little girl made me cry with her gorgeous voice. What a darling! I will check out the mobile phone salesman!
  20. I asked tech earlier today how to find out when my domain names have propagated over to TCH, he told me to get into DOS and do the following: telnet domain.com 26 When I do that I only get this: 220-danuta.tchmachines.com ESMTP Exim 4.68 #1 Thu, 14 Feb 2008 23:04:10 -0500 220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, 220 and/or bulk e-mail. He told me that I should see: Trying xxx.xx.xx.xx... Connected to domain.com (xxx.xx.xx.xx). Escape character is '^]'. 220-danuta.tchmachines.com ESMTP Exim 4.68 #1 Thu, 14 Feb 2008 23:04:10 -0500 220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited, 220 and/or bulk e-mail. If you are getting "Trying 70.47.92.70..." , it is yet to propagate to our server. Why can't I see the ip address? I hope it's not bad of me to add to this thread, but since it said DNS Propagation help, I thought I'd add my query. Thanks
  21. Hi All! Thank you for all your info. Patrick, I really appreciate the time you took. I've had a brief read, and will digest each bit over the weekend. As for my background, I am self taught with regards to web and graphic design. I'm certainly no programmer and have not done super proper study of HTML or web related coding. It looks like I need to do more research on the matter. As for m3u... it is basically streaming Mp3s. I use it for all the samples on my web site so that people can't download the Mp3s. I know anyone who's clever with HTML can steal them, but it at least gives some level of protection. it's better than serving up Real Audio or Windows Media Player files as everyone can play the Mp3s. Are you suggesting that I do Low bitrate files for the PDS/Cell Phone friendly site? I could do 64k files for this purpose instead of 128k-192k ones. or is there a better option. Let me digest this info more. I'm just handing a transfer of sites back to TCH, so it's taking a lot of my time right now. Bruce, I think I saw the J-Plugin you were referring to... was this it?: >h##p://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,2395/Itemid,35/ I have a few months to figure out how I am going to do it. I am wondering if I should do cell and PDA subdomains and cater the content to PDA and cell phones? I am concerned about Asian countries mostly for cell/PDA serving. They seem to be way ahead of us in the US regarding this and I have a large fanbase down that way, so I'd like to give them something mobile. I guess I'll need to make teeny-tiny images for any image gallery that I'd serve up to this medium? Vertical display of photos also I guess would be called for. Lots to mull over! Thanks again!
  22. Oh really!? That is good to know. I wonder what I'd have to trade for Bruce to clean my room? More Pizza and Beer I suppose! LOL
  23. Wow she is awesome! What feeling and intonation for an 11 year old. GOOSEBUMPLES! Only thing that made me mad was the judge telling her to re-do her hair, shoes and dress. That's the problem with "entertainment" these days. WAY too much emphasis on appearance. That girl can SANG, and THAT is what should matter most.
  24. Thanks Thomas! I can try to be on time for dinner, but the room cleaning thing may need some work.
