  1. aaron_ginn, I'd like to make some suggestions / statements. #1, TCH has been my best investment for my business. I currently use the Silver Plan myself. Also, if you're going to offer downloads or streaming of any type you might want to look into the gold plan or above since downloads use bandwidth. #2, I'm using oscommerce (www.dancefloordj.com) and its been great, but it took me a LONG time to get it where I wanted it. #3, Write down on paper, what you want your site to look like and do. This pre-planning makes customization OSC a TON easier. #4, Do some research on Chain Reaction OsCommerce and OsCommerce Max. They already include many useful contributions. Yes, you do need SOME kind of merchant account. BUT WAIT... there is a FREE OPTION (well free startup anyways) PayPal Now accepts credit cards even if the customer doesnt have a paypal account. OSC can combine Paypal via the OSC PayPal IPN Contribution Search their site about it. I also Process Credit Cards offline with ProPay.com Only $35 a year and I think it's only a 3%+$0.35 per transaction charge. Currently, OSC has SEVERAL contributions / modules for several merchant gateways. Do some research which will be best for you. Purchasing an registered SSL Cert from TCH is MUCH easier in OSC than the free one. I've been using OSC for over a year now and have 2 sites using it. It's great if you want to spend the time to personalize it to your need, sucks if you're time constrained. Feel free to contact any questions and I'll try to help out. Also, OSC has a helpful msg board. forums.oscommerce.com Peace
  2. Hey mike, thanks! Been trying to figure that out all day... works perfectly.
  3. Whats the difference between the TAR and GZIP commands? From what I'm understanding, gzip is to compress single or multiple mentioned files and TAR is to blanket a directory correct? Please explain... Thanks Also, if I would run the above script via cron weekly, would it auto-overwrite the .tgz file?
  4. lol, I didn't mean to cause a ruckus. I was working on the site, then suddenly couldn't get to it... I submitted a ticket, but I understand that tech support isn't always going to respond instantly. I didn't know my server number (since I couldn't get to cpanel) so I couldn't post inside the correct server catagory. I posted here because I thought maybe if someone else might be having an issue around the same time they'd possibly see my post and add to it... hence, it might have actually helped someone... It's kewl though. It was aok by the time I woke up. TCH overall has been my best experience to date. From a user's standpoint, these forums are my 1st source for tech support or "how to" issues... This allows me to know if there is a current issue or to be updated on other info.
  5. I was looking into this guide and it is very detailed. One question I did have that wasn't fully answered. How do you setup SquirrelMail from Cpanel to be able to access it from a coporate firewall? I don't need extra features of the latest updates, simple, short and sweet. Thanks Sean
  6. I posted an issue with my site early this morning aourn 1:45am EST as well as a trouble ticket. I look this morning and the post has been deleted. Why? I can understand closing the post, but completely deleting it is kinda, IMO, rude. Anyways, if someone could humor me on this I'd appriciate it. What would cause me to not to connect to my particular domain? Now, basically I was working on it all day, but then all of the sudden, couldn't not access it with either with web browser or FTP. I was still able to access every website besides mine. I could ping the domain and it did respond. This has happened before, about 6 months ago, also late at night like this. As of this morning, the issue seems to be resolved, I'd just like to prevent it from happening in the future if possible.
  7. snipe, thank your for helping me (indirectly) with the .htaccess "DirectoryIndex" This works great as a internal redirector. I needed www.**** to go to www.****/store/index.php I used >DirectoryIndex /store/index.php This worked perfectly! Hopes this helps others
  8. Anyone willing to send a fellow TCH'er a gmail invite? Thanks
  9. Ok, I searched the forums and could not seem to find what I am looking for so I'm posting this. I'll just list what I need... Cron #1 I need a someone to tell me how to make a cron file that can.. Backup my public html folder and all its sub-folders Backup a specific mysql database zip the html folder in its own file output the mysql to a text sql file then zip both of those files together Needs to be done everynight @ a 0100 and needs to overwrite the same file everynight ---------------------------------------- Cron #2, Needs all of the above, but needs to be ftp'd to an external source once a week. ------------------------------ Also, I need someone to inform me how to excute these crons in the cron tool in the cpanel. Sorry if this might be a double post from someone else. Sean
  10. I recently just signed up with TCH Rock Sign and they kindly setup free ssl. How do I go about incorporating (sp?) that with oscommerce. My domain is www.pewterandglass.com Any help would be appriciated and rewarded when I got the store up and running. Thank you Sean
  11. I'm looking to putting a site together simular (sp?) to www.casualconsiderations.com I put together another site www.monstertunes.net but used a site builder for just about everything. I'm paying out $50 in hosting fees and I'm not sure if its worth it. I'll list what my needs are and I hope someone can fill me in on which one of the 3 ecommerce software I should use. !NEEDS TO BE USER FRIENDLY! I need something with shopping capibilities. (add quanity, quick check out, etc) The site needs to have selectable shipping options (UPS ground, 3-day, Next Day) The site needs to be able to accept payments via paypal, Visa/Mastercard/Discover <<offline - I use PROPAY since I'm just starting out. But also have the ability to accept an Merchant account in the future. Something to log in customers via email address for repeat customers - so they don't have to re-fill in their information. Ability to offer free shipping if an order is over a certain amount. Offer coupon codes (if I hand out a business card with decsale2003, they can input that into the coupon code and get a certain discount either % or $) Online Stats of how many visitor per day/month Auto-Mailer letting me know an order has been placed and or auto-responder that lets the customer know that they placed an order with me. Ability to keep order info including shipping tracking info. Ability to create invoices - OPTIONAL ### Ability to keep mailing liste - OPTIONAL ### anyways, thats the jist of what I need for my shopping cart site. If anyone can give me some suggestions it will be gretaly appriciated. Thank you Sean
  12. I see what you offer and it seems very reasonable. Does TCH have capibility to have a full e-commerce site with shopping cart option? I have looked @ 2 other sites (which will remain nameless) ;o) that have an online site builder that makes things pretty easy. Please tell me TCH can help me accomplish this goal. Thank you for your time Sean
