  1. Ive done a couple of things with mine. 1) Ive installed freenas on one and use it as a home server to store local files to share with all of my other computers. This one is a way old computer. Were talking back in the days with 384 meg of ram was a decent amount (I rarely use more than half of it). There are a lot of fun things that you can do with it (bittorrents, Itunes/Daap, etc). worse case scenario its fun to tinker with. 2) Another thing that I have done is to attach a large hard drive to an older computer and run Mozy and Logmein on it. I then stuck it in a closet and run it essentially headless (using logmein.com). Then I have all of my other computers back up to it. This accomplishes two things for me, 1) I have a local back up of everything and 2) I can have one $5 license of mozy to have an off site back up all the information that has been aggregated from the rest of my computers.
  2. Downloadsquad.com is reporting that movabletype will be developing an open source version this summer. It'll be nice to have another platform to play with for free. Check it out here
  3. While I am not TCH Staff, I thought I would chime in. I found the following contact form with captcha HERE. It is a nice clean form that is easy to implement. The link shows you what the output looks like, the code, and the 4k download to get the files. Has anyone else used this? Any known problems? Pray tell.
  4. Dont forget the Gmail Paper function that is now available.
  5. Thats a great link. Thanks for sharing
  6. I found the one I was looking for. It did require a install contrary to what I had thought. SizeMe I remembered where I had seen the review of the product and was able to search for it there. Thanks for your help Thomas
  7. A while back I found a utility that would back your files up to a CD or DVD image. I used it a couple of times, but haven't been able to find it since. I thought perhaps someone here might know of something similar to it. What it allowed me to do was to point to a list of folders (like my MP3 collection) then say what kind of image I want to use (ie DVD/CD). From there it would take all of the files, auto fit them to the size of the media, and then spit out several ISO files. I used it for my 13gigs of music. I just pointed to the folder, asked for a DVD image, then it did the rest. I just took the image and created a backup of my files. While I think it was the type of utility that you can run from a USB drive, I am not sure... Does anyone have any ideas?
  8. Im using th bloglines service. I just started with them and havent changed (despite the ugly look of the site).
  9. I had a pretty popular news site hotlinking a photo from one of my sites. I simply changed the photo (ie added another photo and renamed it to what they were hotlinking). It was a very funny photo that was rather inappropriate for their site. It was down within a few hours. While that doesnt really solve any problems, it made me feel better.
  10. My vote would be to stop making big announcements that an announcent is forthcoming, then taking weeks to actualy make the announcement. Sadly, I didnt see that as an option.
  11. Thanks for the suggestions. Im going to take a look at them when Im not supposed to be working
