OneRedLT4
Hey all, I just now (well a couple of days ago) saw the "Fantastico" icon in the cPanel. Low and behold, there's things in there that potential clients are asking about. So I thought, what a perfect tool to learn how to admin these sites before. So, when I go to the admin page for the osCommerce store, there's a message at the bottom that says, "You are not protected by a secure SSL connection." I can't find any documentation on how to secure it. At least, the sign up page and any pages that would be interpreted as potential hacking. Thanks everyone. TCH-Don
You can find out more about SSL on the totalchoicehosting Help Site Including how to use the shared SSL If you are serious about an ecommerce site you should get your own SSL certificate. PeterPeter
You only need SSL for that if you are going to be accepting payments other than Paypal. You don't need it if you are only testing it out. Get a feel for it first, it can be a bit of a pain, and support for it at times can be lacking. Also it is currently being rewritten from the ground up and in my opinion is well worth waiting for it when it arrives either this millenium or the next. Unless you are on a reseller account you can use the shared SSL in the meantime. As Don showed you have a look at the help site. And if the clients are going to run a shopping cart they should have their own SSL's not just one that covers all the clients. If they are going to use Paypal then you don't need SSL as they do it for you externally when the shoppers chose to pay.
OneRedLT4
Thanks. It looks like the shared is the way to go. Even though I'm just trying out right now, i may want to create a project that I may take on for myself. If so, I'm definitely going to try that. Thanks for the redirection help! TCH-Bruce
The shared SSL certificates are only available on shared servers and not on reseller accounts. That does not mean that you cannot purchase an SSL certificate for your clients to share but there is not one available without the purchase of one on a reseller server. TCH-Andy
With all the latest anti-phising bits in browsers nowadays, that will flag up alerts if your site does not match fully your SSL certificate, I'd be more tempted to get one for the domain than used the shared one (other than for testing etc.) .... just my 2c
