  1. Hello - I've been maintaining a site on my own for a while, but I would now like to allow a second person to have cPanel access, mainly to use File Manager to make file updates, upload files, etc. There's the ability to create FTP accounts to allow others to make updates / uploads, but this requires the second site developer to install (and understand) a FTP tool, file editing tool(s), etc. Not the biggest hurdle, but I'm trying to keep things simple for this new developer. So, is there some way to create a secondary cPanel account to allow someone else use of File Manager and other cPanel tools without sharing the primary cPanel password? A side question - cPanel File Manager and FTP allows setting group permissions on files, but I can't find a way to create and manage groups via cPanel or any documentation / posts on this topic. Could anyone offer some background on using groups and group permissions? Thanks, Tim (ecorse)
  2. Sorry, intended to post this to the FTP + backend section - Tim
  3. Hi - Just this morning I have not been able to get a functioning FTP connection. The main connection is established, but the directory listing isn't returned (see some detailed messaging below). I can't think of anything I've changed on my end, never seen this before, can anyone offer suggestions? Thanks, Tim ... Response: 230-User ecorse has group access to: ecorse Response: 230 OK. Current restricted directory is / ... Status: Connected Status: Retrieving directory listing... Command: PWD Response: 257 "/" is your current location Command: PORT 4,229,24,169,6,134 Response: 200 PORT command successful Command: TYPE A Response: 200 TYPE is now ASCII Command: LIST Error: Timeout detected! Error: Could not retrieve directory listing
  4. Thanks for the good thought on the proxy server - yes, I am using one of the "accelerator" services (PeoplePC MaxSpeed), to give data compression they route HTTP through a localhost proxy and their own servers. I disabled this (went to direct access) and the cached file is gone. Interesting that it only seemed to affect the CSS file type, other files (HTML, PHP) updated immediately. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for the feedback regarding caching; I rebooted my computer, cleared the cache (temp internet files & offline content in IE6), I still return the deleted css file at the above indicated URL. Stumped. Regarding my CSS file definition in my html file, I've made a couple of different file names in my attempts to isolate this file update / caching problem (all files now deleted).
  6. I'm uploading my CSS file to the public_html directory of www.ecorserowingclub.com, a file called ercstyles.css Right now (according to my FTP client) it has been *deleted* - but pointing my browser to http://www.ecorserowingclub.com/ercstyles.css still returns the file.
  7. Hello, This might be a newbie question - I am attempting to update my CSS file, but when I view the CSS file through my browser after updating I keep seeing the prior version. I even delete the CSS file through my FTP client, which shows the file successfully deleted, but when I point a browser at the (old) CSS file location, the old version of the CSS file pops up. Seeing these symptoms, I thought maybe something was locally cached, so I cleared all my temp internet and offline content files - I still see the old version of the CSS file when I point my browser at the file location on the web site. I've tried multiple FTP clients (including SmartFTP), multiple browsers (IE 6 and Mozilla 1.6), they all seem to indicate that even though I've deleted my file through the FTP client, the file is still on the web site server. This is the only file type that gives this can't-update effect. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Tim C.
  8. Hello - A newbie question or two, both regarding setting things up in CPanel: 1) I created a new email acount "tim" for my web site www.ecorserowingclub.com; the CPanel summary of what was generated shows the email address as tim@ecorserowingclub.com (what I expected), but gives the login tim+ecorserowingclub.com. Is there some significance / reason for tacking on the web site name to my desired user name? 2) I tried to create a MySQL database called member_info, again through CPanel; the request went through successfully, but the CPanel results summary shows the database name as ecorse_memeberinfo. Ecorse is my primary user name. Could someone provide any info as to how these names are created? Thanks very much.
