  1. Hello all. I'm finally getting back to this issue. I was traveling for a month and decided to try a life of webmail only and had everything forwarded to Gmail. I've decided I really don't like it, for a bunch of reasons. I'll try not to be repetitive with this post, but should probably summarize a bit. I want to go back to using a mail client (webmail only for emergencies or when away from my laptop). And I plan to get IMAP going to try it out finally. I have two TCH domains - one personal, one biz. I don't want to have to log into more than 2 webmail accounts when those times arise. So, I plan to forward all email to my two TCH accounts and have both of them set up as IMAP. I guess I'm going to have to figure out what to do with all those messages which are currently in Gmail. Also, still trying to decide between Mail.app and Entourage. Hope this post wasn't too vague. I know you guys have already addressed some of these issues, but now I'm having to backtrack a bit and wanted some feedback. Thanks, Scott
  2. Maybe I should consider using the TCH server for IMAP then. The thing is, I'm not crazy about those webmail interfaces. And I'm getting more and more used to Gmail's "conversation" format by the minute. Good to hear you're on a Mac as well.
  3. I was thinking of doing that (the MX to Gmail switch, as a friend is loving it), but realized it would cause me another problem. I use DadaMail to send newsletters for both of my TCH hosted domains. So, now I set up forwards for my TCH hosted email accounts to go to Gmail. And I've added those TCH-based addresses as addition "send mail as" addresses in Gmail. This is my workaround. So, that's what I have set up for the Webmail side of things and wanted a local side (IMAP) as well. Maybe I should try out Thunderbird then ... perhaps it will behave better than Mail App? I'm a bit of a folder nut (now becoming a label nut in Gmail), so it's important to me that if I use IMAP that it doesn't mean giving up my ability to organize messages.
  4. Thanks everyone for jumping in on this. I guess my first question is which mail client are you guys using (and I'm assuming you're using IMAP with TCH's servers?) Remember, my original plan was to use Apple's Mail App and Gmail. But I read so many horror stories about this combo that I got gun-shy. I actually started to try to get it set up and it kept hanging on me. I'm also especially concerned about having extensive folders with IMAP. I want to have a perfect mirror or none at all (meaning I will try out a life of email exclusively online ... which I've never done!). It's time to get myself more organized. Sorry if I'm sort of rambling.... Scott
  5. Thanks Mike. I've been reading so many negative things lately about IMAP (in practice) that I think I've lost my nerve and am thinking of switching to web mail only (gmail) ... after YEARS of POP access only. I'm so used to working locally and would love to continue to have the option. But it seems like life might be simpler with just doing it all online. --Scott
  6. I want to make the switch from POP to IMAP and I currently use Apple's Mail App as my email client. I got it in my head that Gmail was going to be a good solution (mainly because of their labeling feature and search funcionality), so I started forwarding all of my mail to my Gmail account and set up IMAP with Gmail. However, I'm finding that Gmail's conversation approach isn't always ideal, so I'm looking to find another solution and might just stick with the TCH mail servers. My main question is in regards to folders and organizing my email. I currently have a LOT of folders (and sub-folders) set up in Mail App. So much so that I started to get lazy and throw things into a "file later" folder (one of the reasons I wanted to try out Gmail). Anyway, I'm not clear on if I will be able to have my Mail App folder structure mirrored on the TCH IMAP server. Hope someone can help and any general feedback on IMAP & Mail App (Entourage as well) would be great. Thanks, Scott
  7. For the most part it functions well, but I find that it's limited in some features that I need. I find myself 'almost' opting for a paid, web-based service like Constant Contact, but just can't justify the cost yet.
  8. Thanks for the feedback Jim. The "one annoying thing" you mention does sound a bit annoying. However, I think I saw a choice for this in the settings as I looked throught demo. Something about manual vs cron perhaps? Of course, I'm not sure at this point. That would be a drag however, as I'm used to hitting send and forgetting about it with Dada. As I've looked through the PHPList specs it does seem more robust and I'm curious to check it out. I have a couple of lists which have overlapping subscribers and I'm always appologizing to them for sending the message. Thanks, Scott
  9. I've been using DadaMail for my mailing lists for the last couple of years and am finding it limiting and at times frustrating. I just read about PHPList in the forums and took at look at their site. It looks like it could be an improvement over Dada, but would like some feedback if anyone has already made this switch or has any other experience with PHPList. Thanks in advance, Scott
  10. Hello. I actually sent this question to Don as a PM and then realized that others might want to see the answer as well. I just moved my site to its own account (it was an addon) and so I've had to start over with Dada Mail. I've installed the latest version on my new set up, but now I REALLY need to get my old list (and preferably all sent messages and settings) into the new install so I can get back to having a working list for my site (www.pandeiro.com). I've looked all over the Dada Forums and posted my own message there, but no luck. If you have any light to shed on this that would be GREAT. Thanks in advance for your time. Best, Scott p.s. update to this message. I tried the most obvious and FTP'd all of the files from dada_files under my root folder. I then logged into Dada and my old list and messages showed up! However, I've tried to make a few settings changes to the list and things don't seem to be running 100% smoothly. Should I have not done it this way. Anyone with experience in this?
  11. I posted this in the running your online business TCH forum and didn't get single response. So, I'm trying again here. Sorry for posting twice, but I'm tired of waiting..... Here's what I need: To use my current PayPal account along with a 3rd part shopping cart solution (which one, I have no idea!) which will enable me (well, the programmer really) the ability to calculate shipping by weight. And to make things more interesting I'm shipping FROM Brazil. So, rates will be from the Brazilian post office and will have to be converted to US dollars in the process. I've seen a site that does this (minus the PayPal part, so I know it can be done). To add to the mix, I'm also thinking of putting my site into a CMS as well. One friend recommended Mambo (CMS) with a component called phpshop. Does anyone here familiary with TCH and shopping carts have an opinion. I know that OSCommerce is compatible with PayPal and is offered at TCH. But don't know if it can be customized to do what I need. Please help! Thanks in advance, Scott

  13. I'm shipping goods from Brazil and need to be able to calculate shipping costs by weight. I use Pay Pal Shopping Cart for payments and the the Brazilian Postal Service for shipping, so online services/calculators that dynamically generate charges by zip codes probably won't work in this case. But even if I have to enter in some date into a 3rd party app that would be ok. The important thing is to have some way for shipping rates to be calculated based on item weight - especially when quantity is increased, etc. There seem to be so many options out there! It would be great to get some TCH insider, experienced opinion on this if anyone happens to have gone through a similar experience. Thanks in advance, Scott
  14. American (mac-user) web designer from New York now living in Brazil in dire need of a PC to work/test on. Computers and electronics in general are 'brutally' expensive here! What do you say Bill??!!! ;-). Don't worry, I have a US address to ship it to. This photo was taken in my bedroom/office in the Botafogo section of Rio de Janeiro where I've been living for the last 3 years. Rock Sign
