Ssl?

Recommended Posts

After the first of the year, I will be working on opening a small at home business. I'd like to use SSL and I saw that this is free with the deluxe hosting plans I have. (I have 2 domains hosted by you) Is this correct? If so, how do I set up my cart website using the SSL? Is there a tutorial for this somewhere that I may have missed?

Also, how will I know when it's renewal time for my domains hosting?

You need to set it up to use

https ://servername/~username/files

where servername is your full server name, and username is your cpanel username.

Which cart are you using ?

With regard to the renewal - either log into your billing page ( details at the bottom of your welcome email ) or open a ticket at the help desk, billing department, and ask.

I'm going to be using Zen Cart. I do plan to also include Paypal as a payment option but I'd still like the cart to be on an SSL anyway. Thanks for your assistance, guys! It'll take me about a month to purchase a certificate but it's in my plans :)

SSL can be set up when you install Zencart, or later by editing the 2 config files - very easy. See the (excellent) Zencart forums for more info.

I would also recommend your own SSL certificate. Seems expensive, but a lot of potential customers don't want to see a shared cert.

I figured a dedicated SSL definitely looks more professional. I've seen other companies that are charging way more than TCH does for one so the minor upfront expense doesn't seem so bad. I've used Zen Cart before so I'm familiar with its software. It'll just take some time in getting it set up and ready for the public as I have quite a bit of products to add to it and I'll be designing a template for it myself.

I'm learning to use Zen Cart now also. Do you mean that https://servername/~username/files would be put into Zen Cart somewhere? Too, what is meant by /"files" ? Directories where the cart transaction begins? Root directory files?

I purchased a certificate from my domain name registrar. Do I have to open a ticket to have someone assist in using this certificate?

To answer your last question first, yes you need to open a ticket with the help desk to get them to install the certificate (it does incur a fee).

If you have you own certificate the links to your cart will be:

Using the shared certificate the links to your cart or files will be:
