  1. Hi Dick, Thank you for the quick fix. The directory is loading fine. I now see how to change permissions in File Manager.
  2. Hello, I am all of a sudden unable to access a directory of my site. I am instead taken to a 403 Forbidden page with this message: ForbiddenYou don't have permission to access /<directory name> on this server. Server unable to read htaccess file, denying access to be safe Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I did not make any changes in cPanel to cause this. But after the error I did check cPanel Directory Privacy and Indexes and don't see a problem. I also viewed the .htaccess files for both the top level directory and the one in question, but am not familiar enough with .htaccess files to make changes on my own. Besides, the server is unable to read the file. Also tried clearing everything from my browser and restarting it, but that did not work. The rest of my site is accessible. Advice please. I'm stumped. Thank you.
  3. I tried to view my blog (Wordpress version 4.4.2) but instead keep getting a page with the message "Error establishing a database connection." Looking at the URL (http://domain-name/blog/), this is appearing on the index page for the blog folder. I went to phpMyAdmin, looked at the wrdp1 database and found the usual bogus/spam users, but not sure what else to look for. I also removed the blog from subdomain status, but that did nothing. When I try to log in to the dashboard I get this message (actual domain name replaced with <domain>): The server can not find the requested page: blog.<domain>.org/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.<domain>.org%2Fwp-admin%2Fupdate-core.php&reauth=1 (port 80) Help please.
  4. Normally I log in to cPanel and get into phpMyAdmin by clicking the link in the Databases section of cPanel. For some reason phpMyAdmin wants me to log in, so I tried my cPanel username and password. That did not work, so I changed my cPanel password, logged in to cPanel with the new password, and then tried to log in to phpMyAdmin with it, but no success there. That had worked for someone else on this forum, and I can't find a forum post that solves my problem. All the other links in the Databases section work fine. What's going on?
  5. Yes, there was an index.html file in my public_html directory! And it just happened to be my Comcast one. I deleted it, and all is well again. I checked the .htaccess file. There are no redirect commands in it, but I did edit the DirectoryIndex line to make index.php first in the list. That's about the only editing I'm comfortable with in .htaccess files. Evidently, when I uploaded to comcast from my text editor (ftp capable) I didn't take a close enough look at the destination directory. This happened a while back, too, but that time it was an index file from one of my subdirectories, so it didn't throw me like this did. Thanks a bunch TCH-Bruce. John
  6. This unsettling problem is similar to that of Why Won't My Index File Display?, from April 19. The problem started just after I edited my Comcast home page (http://home.comcast.net/~john.o/), which is just a placeholder. Now when I try to view the main page of my (practice) site at http://oggerino.com/, without specifying index.php, I am instead presented with my Comcast index.html with "http://oggerino.com/" showing in the address field! This happens in both Firefox and IE6. I've tried clearing all private data, exiting the browsers, rebooting, with no change. There is no problem with the subdirectories. All the links in my site to the home page, as they are now, display the Comcast page instead. Any ideas as to what happened? Thank you. John
  7. Thank you for all the welcomes and quick responses. TCH-Don, after the techs restored my guestbook I followed your suggestions and everything is working now. I also downloaded a backup from CPanel.
  8. Hi, I'm new here. This started out as a smaller problem, but I've managed to make it worse. Yesterday I had no problem logging in to my Advanced Guestbook (AG) Admin. Today I kept getting Invalid Username or Password, and I did not knowingly make any changes to either one. So I logged in to CPanel and went to MySQL Account Maintenance. After trying all the changes I could think of (which I should not have done!), I now can't even view my guestbook on the web. Instead, the page I'm taken to shows this (edited for privacy): Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx_agbook1'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/xxxxxxx/public_html/guestbook/lib/mysql.class.php on line 30 Connection Error MySQL Error : Connection Error Error Number: 1045 Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx_agbook1'@'localhost' (using password: YES) Date : Sat, March 25, 2006 14:02:20 IP : 71.193.201.40 Browser : Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1 Referer : xxxxxxxx PHP Version : 4.4.2 OS : Linux Server : Apache Server Name : www.xxxxxxxx.com This problem did not occur until after I had deleted user xxxxxxx_agbook1 (under Users:) and then added it back a couple of times, the first time using the password that always used to work, then trying the one I use to log in to CPanel. Note that the username (and associated password) that had always allowed me to log in to my AG Admin were never listed under Users or as a user in the xxxxxxx_agbook1 database on the MySQL Account Maintenance page. What is it I don't understand here? Prior to these changes, I tried adding a new user with password to the xxxxxxx_agbook1 database, with the All Privileges check-box checked. I tried to log in to my AG Admin as that user, but it didn't work. I tried deleting and re-adding user xxxxxxx_agbook1 from the database with the same name, making the same password changes as above. Nothing. Is there any way to fix this mess? I have no idea why I couldn't log in to my AG Admin as usual, when there was no problem yesterday. Thanks!
