  1. Just wanted to take a minute or two to thank Bill and his support staff for another great job. My dedicated server started to throw errors and became unavailable multiple time in the wee hours of the morning. A RAID rebuild was in progress. The server was valiant in its attempts to fix itself but surcumbed to the inevitable, a hard crash. The support team was already aware and watching the rebuild but when I submitted a support ticket because I couldn't access the server anymore, they sprang into action. Unfortunately it was a major failure which required new hardware and a total reinstall of the operating system and user files. It took several hours for this to be completed and I am back up running full steam ahead. For those of you who have not experienced this before with other providers, this is amazing! Hosting providers I have used prior to TCH would have taken 24-48 hours to do the work Bill and his team did in just a few hours. Those that have experienced this know exactly what I am talking about and that I presume is why you are with TCH. KUDOs to TCH!
  2. Just wanted again to say publicly and to make sure Bill and Dick know they have a great support staff. Especially Alex and Tina. I purchased another dedicated server and with their help/patience with my trivial sometimes outright stupid questions (I should have already known the answers to), got me over another hurdle(s). I can't say enough accept, please don't put me on the "Oh no, not him again!" list.
  3. Had the same initial problem and stomping of feet but it works fine for me in Roboform. Just had to re-do/re-save the login links to all my client CPanels.
  4. Thanks Dick for the update. Thought something was wrong on my end trying to access three email accounts on "Data".
  5. To Bill, Dick and everyone else at TCH, Been a customer using a reseller package for many years and decided to purchase a managed dedicated server for one of my clients. I can't tell you enough how good I feel about going with TCH for this server. You guys have been great, from sales, build/installation and tech support. I particularly want to say "Tech Support" again. I am a complete novice in the Linux environment and they have been there each time for me to correct/solve my problems/mistakes with the "patience of Jobe". You Rock!
  6. Your sound problem is not your computer nor is it your Boston Acoustics speakers. Had the same problem when I purchased a new desktop and had to buy a new set of speakers. Looking at the pictures/wiring diagrams it appears you have the same one's I did, probably from Gateway computer. These Boston Acoustics speakers need a digital/fixed Auxilary output from the sound card in the computer. Correct me if I am wrong but those speakers came with your old computer as a package. The sound card was probably a Sound Blaster brand card and the speakers were matched up with it. I would try a new set of speakers, Logitech is my choice. Take all of this with a grain of salt cause I have been wrong many times in the past and probably many times in the future. Good Luck! Chip
  7. Thanks Mike for getting back to me. I basically got the same reading you did right from the HIPAA website. My thoughts were also the same about a shared server but wanted to double check with someone from TCH to see if I was missing anything. Seems I may be missing a lot. Will speak to the people that really know about laws governing this. As usual you guys are great!
  8. I have a Simple Reseller's account which I assume is on a shared machine. One of my customers, who is in the medical QA/QI business, is using a MySQL database with some PHP generated data entry pages I created to store generic data on procedures and things. Now my customer wants to include scanned images and/or generated PDF files which may contain personal information such as name, address, phone numbers, etc. I want to put them in a folder not the database and link them to their appropriate record. HIPAA, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, is the governing law that I am trying to comply with. My questions are numerous but for now just a sampling: I would like to figure out what kind of security I have, if I need any additional security ie. do I need to encrypt, what type of folder security do I have, is the server itself secure, who and what has access to my files, do I need a dedicated server, etc. Ultimately I am trying to make sure that I can cover my butt and lock this stuff down so only the appropriate people have access to it. I am still very new with Linux and this reseller stuff. Any insite, suggestions, help (on or off forum) would be greatly appreciated. Chip Patterson
  9. Thanks Andy, Putting too many "/" and directory names into my path. You made me think what directory my page was running in and just put in the name of the directoy I wanted to save the file to. The directory for saving the file was a sub-directory. Page was running in www/demotest, all I needed to use for a path was "pcrimage". You guys are awesome as always, Thanks!
  10. Hope this is the right forum............ Using CodeCharge Studio to develop a PHP based project which includes a file upload module on a HTML page. When I access the page from my website I receive an error within the page, which is normal if there is a problem, stating "Upload folder doen't exist". I have created the folder in question, did a chmod 777 on the directory. I am using /home/XXXXX/....... as the path. I got this from the file manager in Cpanel. First question - I am on a shared server, do you have 'open base dir restriction' setup which means I can't access sub-directories from outside Cpanel or ftp? Second question - If I don't know what I am talking about, could you please point me in the right direction with path and permisions to allow me to upload a file from a web page. If you need additional info, please let me know. Thanks for your help,
  11. Thanks for the reply Jesse, Is a SPF record a good thing to have setup or is it not nessesary? Recursion is on because some servers are at different TCH controlled DC's, correct? Just asking to learn a little about the backend of this webhosting stuff. Thanks again, Chip
  12. Good Day Everyone, Don't know whether this is the correct forum to be in, but I am going to ask a couple of questions anyways. Please be patient with me, i don't claim to be an expert at this stuff but I think I know just enough to be dangerous/get myself in trouble. Went to DNSstuff .com which allows you to run some, what I think are, informational reports on a domain, etc. Overall my domain passed the tests the DNS Report ran but two tests did not pass. In the "NS" section it told me my DNS server was open and gave me the following info: ERROR: One or more of your nameservers reports that it is an open DNS server. This usually means that anyone in the world can query it for domains it is not authoritative for (it is possible that the DNS server advertises that it does recursive lookups when it does not, but that shouldn't happen). This can cause an excessive load on your DNS server. Also, it is strongly discouraged to have a DNS server be both authoritative for your domain and be recursive (even if it is not open), due to the potential for cache poisoning (with no recursion, there is no cache, and it is impossible to poison it). Also, the bad guys could use your DNS server as part of an attack, by forging their IP address. Problem record(s) are: Server 207.44.236.88 reports that it will do recursive lookups. [test] Server 72.9.224.186 reports that it will do recursive lookups. [test] See this page for info on closing open DNS servers. My question - Should it be open or should it be closed? Second thing was in the mail section that warned me about the SPF record: Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from your domain, which can make your domain look bad (if the recipient thinks you really sent it), and can cost you money (when people complain to you, rather than the spammer). You may want to add an SPF record ASAP, as 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records in place (Hotmail, for example, started checking SPF records on 01 Oct 2004). My question - Should there be one? Please don't take these questions as an attack on TCH, I ask out of curiousity because of all the crap that goes on with the internet and spam Thanks, Chip
  13. Thanks everyone for your responses. It probably would have been helpful if I had read the "Install on remote server" section of the product's user guide first before I started asking questions. Although I have one more related question. I couldn't find answers to all the system requirements listed below, could you help me confirm or deny that TCH servers have these base requirements? PHP 4.3.0 or higher, 5.x Required PHP settings (php.ini): file_uploads = On magic_quotes_gpc = On cURL PHP library GD PHP library HSBC payment module requires that your hosting environment allows utilizing exec() function for running third-party compiled software. Thanks again, you guys are great! Chip
