Spyware

I have used ad-aware but right now I am using spy-bot. It seems to work pretty good.

I also run a program to erase invalid entries, ignored entries and such from my registry which also helps to keep the computer clean of excess stuff. :)

Fumnny thing - I heard about Spybot via a local weekend radio call-in show about computers. The guy talking about it said the same thing: that it picked up things that Adaware did not.

I personaly was looking for an alternative only because after using version 5.x of Adaware without many problems, they released version 6, and I cannot get it to connect to download updates to their Reference file.

Their support in answering my questions has not been stellar.

I have been using spybot for around 3 Years now, althought it would be awesome if he could make it where, the files that are required to run other programs, such as kazaa, would be left out of the list after the search is over :)

I learned it the hard way, after removing the files that where needed, such as gator, I ended up reformatting my computer in order to get everything back to normal.

lol I havn't even tryed the immunization, I just feel good when I re-scan, and the files are gone :) but I Restore my PC every few months, just to be save, and with windows XP this little Windows Messenger Grey Box Spam, is getting to be a pest, downloading Shoot the Messenger, doesnt take long, but it gets very weird at times.

I like PestPatrol (not free) but it sounds like a "drop in the toilet" every time a cookie gets blocked and a laser sword when spyware is thwarted.

It also has an exceptions list that you can create and you get to select each found known component for deletion or quarantine.

I also use Spybot S&D, which, among other things, seems to go significantly faster than AdAware, although I like the resident scanner in AdAware plus that can scan for executables as they run.

If you like the immunity function, then you might also want to check out a program called SpywareBlaster. It goes above and beyond the Spybot immunization, and in fact it's reccomended under the immunize function in the program. It will basically block most malware from being downloaded in Explorer.

The same company also makes a resident scanner called SpywareGuard, which works like an antivirus on-access scanner and can block spyware like the AdAware Plus guard.

I use Adaware SE, Spybot S&D, Microsoft AntiSpyware. I like them all and run all three of them. There have been times that by the time I have gotten to the third one it is still picking up stuff that the other two didn't.

Right now I am having problems removing some Smiley Central crud that I regretfully downloaded onto my computer. Spybot is the only one picking it up but I cannot remove it. UGH!

Microsoft's Antispyware works great on my computer. When I did my first scan it found 8 spywares that no other program had found. Since then no spyware. If there is spyware on my computer that Microsoft's Antispyware have missed in its real time protection I dont know, but I dont think so. The only problem I have is that the real time protection doesn´t always starts at computer startup. So dont forget to check that it is enabled. :D

I'm using AdAware,SpyBot S&D,Microsoft Antispyware,SpywareBlaster.

I think that one the best if not The Best is SpySweeper.

Once I had some nasty crap infected my system, nothing helped.

Downloaded trial of SpySweeper - got rid of it. But it's not free. They have a special now for $15. Highly recommend. BTW, it's one of the top downloads on Cnet and everywhere.

Another piece of Free software I recommend is MyUninstaller.

It's just excellent - what Norton can't uninstall or leaves pieces behind, MU does a complete job.
