  1. Yeah I gathered this was the problem. I added server23 as a smarthost so for now all my mail gets forwarded throgh server23 (so its like i'm not using my own server). Is there any way I could tell exchange to only use the smart host for emails to aol.com. No need to bother your servers otherwise
  2. Hi all, I've set up my own mail server on my home network as I wanted to use an exchange server. I've changed the MX records in Cpanel and everythings been working fine, except for sending to @aol.com email addresses, they seem to be failing as this is what i'm receiving from exchange I'm running an internal DNS as I should so that emails are delivered to the server from inside and outside the network. I've heard it could be a problem with a reverse lookup or the fact i'm on a dynamic IP address (which hasn't changed in 2 years!) i'm really at a loss as to whats causing this. My servers only been running for 2 days and has not been used to send spam so can't be blacklisted. Any ideas guys??? Thanks in advance for any help, The Kevster
  3. No thats was a brilliant explanation and I have now set NS1.virtual-eye.co.uk and NS2 in my domain settings. I was hoping you'd reply as you've help me with technical issues before and it seem you know your stuff. Thanks for your help, its appreciated Thumbs Up
  4. At the moment I have a couple of domain names, one run entirely by yourselves on Server 23 which over the last two years has been fantastic. Rock Sign The other just used to link to my home IIS which I used for a simple University project, this is done by using ZoneEdits free DNS services. Now I’m out of University I’ve put it to other uses and decided it would be better to have its own dedicated machine and while I’m there it might as well have its own DNS. I understand most of the principles involved but, what I don’t understand is what I enter into the DNS properties of my domain. The whole idea is to convert the domain name virtual-eye.co.uk to the IP address 82.34.152.54. What I don’t understand is why most DNS servers are at NS1.domainname.com and such, surely that’s complicating things and making the machine have to run two DNS lookups? And how am I meant to set up the DNS for virtual-eye.co.uk and also NS1.virtual-eye.co.uk on the same machine. I’ve looked through a lot of guides and tutorials on DNS but no one explains in enough details, they’re aimed at the curious not someone who is trying to implement it themselves. Mad!!! I’m sure someone here can help me to understand the principle as long as they have the time to write the reply. Thanks for any help, Kevin Cooper P.S. I’m going to be using Windows Server 2003 DNS and IIS.
