  1. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this but here goes........ I am looking for a piece of hardware that will control the computers on my network. I would like to be able to set rules based on specific PCs. I would hope to control: What times a PC can access the Internet If a PC can use IM or other chat programs Content Filter based on Site name or words found on the site If a PC can aceess POP3 or SMTP ports for email If a PC can download files Keep a PC off the internet but still give access to my LAN resources etc I need to be able to give different access to different PCs. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know that I can do it with software solutions, but I want to be able to add/delete access rights from a central location. It would also be nice if this came as a good firewall. Of course, I am hoping to get all of this without spending my kids college fund on it. Thanks for any input you might be able to offer. Gary
  2. Like most everyone, my domain email boxes are getting pounded with SPAM Mail. I am using Spam Assasin which can be really good once you get it configured right. I am dumping all my SPAM into a seperate mailbox. My users can opt look at it just to make sure it didn't catch anything they might have needed. I am trying to find a way to automatically delete email (off the server) over X days old from this box. CPanel has an Aging feature which sounds like it will do what I want, but TCH does not impliment it. Does anyone know of a third party app that might do what I want to do? I appreciate the help!! Gary
  3. I'm not sure if I am in the right forum for this or not, but here goes..... I have a program on my computer that runs on a schedule. For this program to work, I must have a VPN connection open to my office. I don't want to leave this connection on all the time. The program is capable of starting another program before it runs and one after it runs. Does anyone know a script that I can run before that would automatically initiate the VPN connection and/or a script that would later terminate it? I would need it to run totally unattended. I appreciate any suggestions that you might be able to offer. I've not had much luck finding one on the Internet. Thanks!! Gary
  4. Ok.... I don't usually jump on these soap boxes, but I feel that I need to say this.... While I agree that it's always best to give people as much notice about change as possible, none of us are in Bill's shoes. He was faced with a decision and made what he felt was best for all of us. Bill and his staff supply some of the best service and support that I have ever experienced. Now it's time for us to trust and support them. If you have ever had to deal with AOL on an administrative level, you would know that it is one of the most frustrating experiences you will ever have. They are the BIG fish and treat everyone else like a bother. One of the funniest things I have ever seen on TV is their commercial where they show how much they listen to their users and care about what the users want/think. The only people they listen to are their bankers. Anyhow, I just want to say Thanks to the entire TCH staff for all the effort they put forth to keep TCH an excellent place to host my domains. Gary
  5. I guess that makes pretty good sense. I'll just set up a mailing list with a very criptic name. Thanks for the info!! Have a GREAT week!! Gary Rock Sign
  6. I have looked at that as an option. I just figured that there might be a command or a certain email address (like everyone@servinggod.net) that the cpanel recognizes and does it automatically without me having to create all the addressbook entries or forwards in my cpanel. Maybe this doesn't exist, but I thought it might be worth checking into.
  7. I can't seem to find an answer online, so I know you smart users can help. Is there a way for me to send out an email to everyone that I have given an email box to? I know that I can do it individually or set up a forward for each box, but I figure there is probably a way that the system slows that to be done also. I appreciate any input you might be able to give me!! Thanks!! Gary
  8. You hit the nail on the head!! After I downloaded and installed the newest Nero everything went back to normal. Didn't realize that the Nero engine would affect so many other programs. Thanks once again for all your help!! Gary Rock Sign
  9. I did look at that article. I have the firewall turned off since I am behind a hardware firewall. I received another reply from another forum that says I may have to update Nero. apparently there is a conflict between Nero and SP2 that makes the drive look like a read only drive. I am going to look into that now. I'll keep you posted. Again, thanks for all your help!! Gary
  10. Ok... This might not be the right forum for this, but here goes. I recently installed XP SP2 on my laptop. Now, I can't use the DVD/CDRW drive to burn CD's. When I try, it tells me that there is no CD in the drive. Also, NERO no longer sees the drive at all. I can put CDs in and read them just fine. It was working until I installed SP2. I tried uninstalling the new Hi-MAT but that did not resolve it. Anyone have any thoughts, ideas, or know a site where I might get better results for this problem? Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!! Gary
  11. Ok...... Here's another question for you smart people. SQMAIL has a plug in that permits importing a csv email addressbook. Can I install the plug in for my use or does that have to be done on a global level by the Gurus? Rock Sign
  12. No. Horde uses 2095. I had been using Horde right up to the point that he blocked all the ports.
  13. The SQMAIL isn't too bad. That may do the trick. Just one thing.... anyone know a way to import a CSV addressbook into it? I have an aweful lot of email address to try to retype them all. Thanks for all of your input!! Gary
  14. Our Network Admin at my office is now blocking all ports over 1000. He also blocks Pop3 and SMTP. Yes, he is very paranoid. Anyhow, now I can't read or send my TCH email from work. This is a real problem. So, I signed up for Yahoo! And started using that to check my TCH email. Only problem is that every time I check for "New" messages, I get everything in my inbox (on each account). I asked Yahoo about this and here was their response: Hello Gary, Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mail. The POP3 protocol, which we use to retrieve messages from your External Mail accounts, provides a command named LAST. It determines the last message "seen" on the External Mail server, at any time and from any computer. When you use the "Retrieve new messages only" option, we use this command to distinguish those messages which are new and should be downloaded from those which have already been seen. Although nearly all mail servers support the LAST command, a few do not. If you happen to be using one that doesn't, then when you click the "Check Mail" link, all of the messages in your Inbox will be retrieved rather than only the new messages. Do the TCH servers support the "Last" command? Would you have any suggestions as to how I might resolve this problem? Thanks!! Gary Rock Sign
  15. GREAT info Bruce. That works fine. As I was doing that, I also found that as you fill up your white and black lists entries, you are given more slots on the config page. So it appears that you can do everything from the config page. You just fill all your slots and select save. When you go back into the config screen, you will have new blank slots. Not sure if there is a max, but if so, I can just edit the file like you suggested. Gary
