This is a really nice color wheel-based tool that expands into several options, ie monochromatic, base + complement, base + neighbors, base + 2 complements - then it lets you tweak a few other settings. When you get where you want it displays the hex #s for you. I've been having fun with it for a few days, thought others might enjoy it, too.

I use this all the time to create pdf files. It sure beats buying an expensive program. You simply upload your file and they email you the pdf, then save the file to your computer. It works like a charm!

I found this on A List Apart yesterday. It provides automated obfuscation of mailto links. You just install it (pretty simple) and then never have to think about it.

I don't know enough to determine how effective this solution is (there seems to be some disagreement in their comments) but I like the no-thought aspect of it.

Note that if you download the zip, you have to fix several filenames--remove .txt from everything, htaccess is spelled wrong, and one file has a "," instead of a ".". Once I noticed all that it worked great for me!

When we got Fantastico in our cpanels I tried Joomla almost immediately and found it to be good. I went to the Joomla site to investigate it a little more and I found lots of components and modules to install in Joomla.

Spyware Gettin Ya Down?

I found a really useful combination of tools that has helped a lot at work for our people who attract spyware programs to their systems.

HijackThis! is a program that goes through your system and creates a log of all the registry entries for non-standard stuff such as spyware toolbars and programs that start up with the computer. You can get it at http://merijn.org/downloads.html but be careful, you can really hurt yourself with it if you delete the wrong thing, but that's where Part II comes in!

If you copy your HijackThis log and paste it on the Help2Go Detective, it will go through and tell you the bad things and why they are bad, the questionable things, and how to remove the stuff that should go. The Detective is at http://help2go.com/modules.php?name=HJTDetective

I have had only good success with this combination but as I said, be careful... if you delete a windows system service or something it could result in a non-bootable machine. The Detective has never told me to remove anything that I shouldn't and I trust it completely, but always use common sense and err on the safe side if you have any doubts.

If you ever found yourself looking at a log file full of referrer references to ****, drugs, I AM A SPAMMER, etc, this site might be usefull:

Konfabulator - a cross-OS tool with hundreds of widgets to choose from.

It wasn't always free ($20, maybe?) but Yahoo just bought it and it seems to have been a catalyst to start giving it away for free.

I, personally, am using the graphical moon phase widget, as well as the Post-It notes, weather, calendar, translator and language character widgets.

It's pretty invaluable.

I am chiefly in love with the CSS tool. I am working on a shopping cart with huge CSS file that isn't commented very well and I can never remember what controls what, so now in Firefox I can view the ID and Class details for each item on the whole page.
