Turn Off Front Page Extension

I was going to turn off Front Page extension but I got a message warning me I would lose access to any htaccess files.

I'm not really clear what htaccess files are but I know when I installed a forum on smf, they suggested I add an htaccess file to my smf folder which I did. It was actually a file that I copied and pasted so nothing I came up with, except I then created a 404 page and added a link to that page on the htaccess file so now my question is, if I uninstall the Front Page extensions, do I just need to create a new htaccess file and if so, do I just copy and paste what was on my original htaccess file?

I have 3 forums for smf and all three have the htaccess file then I also have an htaccess file for my domain and it looks as if this is the only place that uses the Front Page extensions. The htaccess file starts out like this: # -Front Page-.

I don't use Front Page for designing my web sites.

Cannot Install Fp Server Extentions

Once again I am having problems with the Front Page Server Extensions on one of the sites I have on a resellers account.

When I try to publish from front page I get a standard error message that the extentions are not installed

When I go to cpanel and do the remove reinstall thing I get an error message saying there is something wrong with my .htaccess file.

I have had this problem several times in the past, always required a new line in the .htaccess file, but have lost my notes, and since I have never been able to do compound searches on TCH am unable to find the hint about to once again fix it.

Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated, and I really suggest that TCH put this one in the FAQ area, pretty sure that others have this problem, seems to be caused when something gets changed on the servers.

And yes I could work around this by using FTP, or even using GoLive rather than FP. Even though FP is older than the hills around us, I continue to use if for simple stuff because it is so simple to use, at least when I don't have this problem/

Remove The _vti Folders?

I would like to remove the _vti folders and files from the public_html directory. I don't use FrontPage. It would make my public_html directory much cleaner to look at. Thanks for any info.

Guess my question is: Will it cause any problems for a non-FrontPage user like myself to delete these folders and files?

Images Not Showing Up

Ok...let me start by saying that I know very little about building websites, so go easy on the techical stuff, 'kay? I know how to use Frontpage basics to build a simplistic site and publish it up to my web address...that's about it! So...here's my issue. I just transferred my site over from another host, where everything showed up fine, but here, none of my images are showing up at all. I'm sure there is something I need to do differently to make them show up, but I'm not sure what it is. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give! I'm about to start learning Dreamweaver to redo my site, but until then, I kinda need my images to show up.

wow, this frontpage section is dead. guess no one uses this program much anymore.

my question is..... i had to reinstall my xp lately and found another version of frontpage to use (2002) also. if i remember right i did my site with an earlier version, but anyway i have had a problem importing my site in the new program. it just does the home page, all the other pages don't show up. got any ideas for me? thanks, dave

With FP being phased out by MS, TCH says that continued extension support for their Unix/linux will cease at some point. If I wish to keep using FP, does it make sense to switch to a Windows based Web Host, or will they have the same problem in the future?

I've been using FrontPage user for a long time now and I've had two accounts here for a long time now and I was wondering,... For the people who use MS FrontPage what kind of servers would be better to use, A Linux or Windows Server?

Theres things inside of frontpage that it would seem Linux servers just wouldnt support. Some of the templates that come with FP use extensions that linux servers dont support where a microsoft server could. Now i have no idea how different hosts and servers run their servers and theres probably things that a linux server has that a windows server doesnt and vice versa, Yes, No?.

What are your thoughts on where people who use frontpage should really be? Making this website I want to be making right now is driving me nuts trying to get stuff put together for it so i'm just wondering before i sign up a third account.

Well my searches have come up empty.

I want to create a website like Pricewatch.com but I want it to deal with automotive parts and accessories.

Is it possible to create a site like this using FrontPage 2003?

I tried making a site using the Templates supplied with FP 2003. I used the "Database Interface Wizard" But It seems to only create APS or APSX pages and I believe that TCH doesnt support ASP or ASPX pages on a Linux Server.

Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction to creating a site such as that one?

Hello, this problem began over the weekend. First I would like to state the only things I have done different to the site.

1. I went to your redirect option and pointed a few url's...

2. I went to the subdomain option and forwarded a name just to see how it worked (it was erased afterwards)

Ok, this being said I have spoken to Alex and Jason regarding these issues. They asked me to do a full back up, download everything to MY computer. I did (however) the download was corrupted. I have opened the zipped download and it seems to all be there so where the corruption lyes I am not 100% certain.

Now that I have this download what do I do next?

Unfortunately, I do not fully understand what they ask to fix the issue. They state these are all MS Frontpage issues. The reason I can not use windows XP Network Connection (which I have used for 5yrs now) is due to Frontpage. I am a novice to this whole thing and design my 90% of my site through frontpage due to the site itself being fairly straight forward (no java etc...)

This is a messaging service and it being down for 3 days now seriously affects business.

I am willing to go back a few days back up if this helps correct the issue. If I recall (yesterday was a hectic day due to mothers day and a birht day) they stated the only back up they had was for the 12th.

Please let me know what it will take to correct this issue.

Server Timeout Error

Hi,

I am trying to upload a 10+ Mb file via FP2003 publish command and it always times out. I know a 5Mb file works, I have created a mono sound effect that is 5Mb and the stereo version is 10Mb.

Any ideas on how to keep the server from timing out?

Transfering Via Fp 2k3

While transferring files to my server via copy paste or using the import feature in FP 2k3 I get the following error. When i press details I get the "details" of that error.

Now using Cpanels file transfer is to time consuming as they are small files but quite a few. Ive tried transfering in chunks varying in size. Sometimes it works sometimes i get those errors.

Frontpage Publishes To Wrong Server Folder

I have several websites created in Frontpage - and all but one always publishes to the correct "public_html" folder on the tch server.

But one website has suddenly started publishing to the root folder for that website. I can't find a setting in Frontpage 2002 that tells the publish function what server folder it's supposed to send the files to.

I am running into problems with publishing with Frontpage 2003 on my sites at Total Choice Hosting. I have 30 websites that I manage and when I run into a problem, I have to reinstall Frontpage Extensions which is very time consuming. After submitting several tickets concerning this problem, I am told that Frontpage was designed for Windows servers and will not work as well on Total Choice Linux based servers. Has anyone else had this problem and if you did, what did you do to correct the problem?

I designed websites few years ago and since then stopped completely. I don't work in computer field so now I can't even remember what I did.

I just bought domain name and got service from totalchoicehosting. yesterday I installed frontpage extention on my computer and still I can't open my site in frontpage. I know frontpage is not famous to use but I don't know much programming so I have to start there and will learn.

So how do I open my site in frontpage. And I remember something about saving index.htm in public director.

Anyway please tell me where and how to start.

Deep Six Front Page?

I want to remove the FP extensions from a site and publish by FTP. The extensions have finally gotten the best of me, most of my support tickets are due to error messages generated during publishing!

I'm also redesigning the sites and removing all the FP webbots and that stuff.

So, has anyone done this, and what procedure did you use? Is it best to remove the whole site and start over, or can the extensions be removed from the server and the updates sent by FTP?

Front Page Problem

After about two weeks of using Front Page 2003, suddenly one of the tools stopped working for me.

When I go into a page I open a file, and under 'view' I used to be able to change the view of the file I was going to open to a thumbnail.

I would click on 'thumbnail' and it would make all the pictures into a small picture. Now the word 'thumbnail' is grayed out. I don't have that option anymore.

What happened?

Ive rebooted. doesnt fix anything. Should I uninstall F.P. and re install? or did I hit a button somewhere to make 'thumbnail' NOT work for me anymore?

Can't Publish From Total Choice Back To Computer

i just started working on web design 6 months ago, i use microsoft frontpage 2003. i have always published from my desktop to the total choice server using frontpage. last night i published from the server to my new notebook computer, made some updates to the web site, then published back from notebook to the server with no problems. i then today was on my desktop, opened my web page then tried to publish from the server to my desktop (the computer i had been using for the past 6 months) and got the following error from frontpage: "You specified identical destination file names for some of the files you are trying to copy". i looked this error up and it talks about publishing from a unix system to window base and how one sytem doesn't differentiate between upper and lower case but i can't find any idential files. i would really appreciate if anyone can let me know what i can do. My goal is to take my now updated web page and publish to my desktop computer from the server so that i may continue to edit it. thanks so much! jason

I am having problems now not only publishing within FrontPage but now my cart software has taken a fit. I am contemplating redoing the entire site over. Before I do it I thought I wanted to ask for some advice.

1. I was looking at an template from ECOMMERCE with a shopping cart. It doesn't use FP Extensions, which I know is part of my problem. Has anyone used these templates from Ecommerce?

2. If I decide to redo the entire site, should I have my current space cleaned out and start over like new ??

I have done a lot a testing with other packages and my house cleaning stinks, so there is alot of crap out there.

Can't Upload New Pages

Odd Character Added To Page Text

I need help with an odd character (A) being added to my page text in various places. This happens when I save the page with the HTML editor (wysiwygPro). The page in question is at http://www.giantwarbirds.org/events.htm You can readily see the character added throughout the page.

Compatability Problems With Internet Explorer

I am experiencing a very peculiar problem with Internet Explorer (latest edition) and Netscape 7.2.

My website in designed in Frontpage 2000, when uploaded all links and applets work fine when viewed using Netscape.

But when I navigate using IE, none of the hover buttons work or the links. The page load normaly, but can not active the hyperlinks or buttons.

What can be wrong here ? Why does my website work with one browser and not with the other ?

I am not an experienced web designer, so please take this into consideration when explaning a possible solution.

My website is www.montufarcpa.com. The english section of the site is not working yet, you will have to enter the spanish site, but the problem is evident from the first page

I just want a database, which can be based on an excel spreadsheet (not a must, but since I am a newbie this would be good). it should be able to do simple calculations (eg number of months times monthly rate) and be able to show me, just like in the above example, what i am looking for, at a click.

I read the other two threads with the same problem. I did go and uninstall my FP extensions, but I wanted to also go in to my Private folder and add the .htpaccess but I am not quite sure how to do that.

Got a bit of a problem here, hope you folks can help.

I recently took over another person's website, adding it to mine as a subdomain. They sent me a disc with the site on it which I was able to load into MS FrontPage as a separate web, made the few changes I wanted to make, and attempted it to upload it. However, I've been getting the following error after it has loaded a page or so-

"406 Not Acceptable

Not Acceptable An appropriate representation of the requested resource /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe could not be found on this server. Apache/1.3.34 Server at theblobsite.filmbuffonline.com Port 80 "

I have set up the subdomain to have FrontPage extensions.

Any thoughts on what I'm not doing right?

The extensions are enabled for FrontPage on a clients domain. He is running FP 2000

When trying to access his site to update files I had previously uploaded for him via Dreamweaver, he gets:

I get that error when I try to update through FP. I've got FP 2002.

I can update through FTP without a problem. I can update using FP with another domain host without a problem. Only one i have problems with is my TCH domains

I've tried reinstalling, unistalling, all that with the extensions.

Borders Problem

Hi,

I'm doing a redesign of my website, gale2006.com. For some strange reason I'm having a terrible time getting the borders to work how I want them to.

The new website design will be www.gale2006.com/new2.htm When pulling up the site in Internet Explorer, it works great... exactly how I want it to. But when I pull it up in Mozilla Firefox, the borders are back and the links are underlined. Any ideas how I can fix these problems? While you're at it... any thoughts about the basic new design?

Setting The "from" Address

Good morning all.

The Support Desk suggested I try posting this question here to see if y'all might have any advice.

I have, via other hosting providers, been able to set the "from" address that is used to generate emailed forms results by modifying a setting in the FrontPage server extensions. I do not seem to have that ability in the cPanel on TCH.

The Support Desk indicates that all emailed form data comes from: nobody@.tchmachines.com and that there is no way to set the "from" on a per "domain" basis.

Any advice, confirmation?

Major Mess Up

Earlier a TCH guy walked me through publishing from my cpanel. It worked except all of the graphics didn't show up and one page is totally not there. So I figure I have to upload everything by itself. Well, there is so much so I decide to make folders and put everything for one page into a folder. Now everything is messed up. The links don't work. One page doesn't recognize the other. I think I totally screwed up. I don't know what to do. I still can't publish from FP like I should. I'm so frustrated. Does anyone have a clue how I fix my folder screw up.

Submit Button Not Working

I am a beginner when it comes to this thing. Anyway I desperately need help in fixing this issue I am having. I have a feedback page and an order page on my site that are currently not working. When the customer click the submit button it is suppose to email the input to my email address. However when I tested it. I get an error message saying the page cannot be found. Something about "webbot". I have read several tutorial and that I needed to install FP extension which I know is not the best due to the unsecure nature. Well after trying out several scripts with no luck I installed the FP extension but it is still not working.

How To Publish Fp Before Domain Propogates

Hi everyone.

I have a domain that I have not yet switched over from the old DNS server to the new TCH DNS server.

I'm on server 19 and I know the shared IP address for that server.

I want to publish the web site using FP to the new server before the I change the DNS server so that when the new DNS info takes hold, it will be totally seemless. One moment a user might go to the old server and when it propogates, they will get to the new TCH server.

I also need to setup email through cpanel. How can I access cpanel before the domain propogates?

I have two websites. I have two domains for my websites. Website 1 is published and working. Website 2 doesn't want to publish. I open website 2 and click publish. A box comes up. (I have FP 2003). It's marked for FP Sharepoints (whatever that means). In the area where the website is typed - I see website 1 address. So I retype it to show website 2 address. I click ok. The password box comes up. I put in my username and password. I click ok. The box comes back and the password is gone. I've had FOUR tickets and several live chats about this. Frontpage ext. done. Proxy settings done. TCH is able to publish a test page in FP to my site, but I CAN'T. What's up here? I keep asking this question but no one will answer me - is it possible that I have my website 2 saved incorrectly? I don't understand all of the sub domain stuff, so I'm thinking website 2 may be in the wrong file path (FP for Dummies has one paragraph on this...aaarrggg...). When I open website 1 at the top it says Content 'C:/Documents and Settings/My Name/My Documents/My Web Sites/website 1'

When I open website 2 (the one I'm trying to publish) at the top it says Content 'C:/Documents and Settings/ My Name/My Documents/My Web Sites/website 2

If I understand this right both sites are on the same file path...so does that mean I have website 2 saved as a sub domain under website 1? If so, how do I fix it? If not, what else could it be?

P.S. If I click on SSL (I've tried clicking on lots of stuff), it pops up and tells me that the security certificate doesn't match the domain name. What does that mean?

I'm so frustrated. Please somebody help!
