All of TotalChoice Web Hosting's servers are numbered and each client is placed on one of these servers. Now when something goes wrong or you need something fixed on your account, you often see the tech support team asking, "What's your server number?". What do you tell them? How can you find out what server you're on?

The server number should appear in a message that says Welcome to Server## at the top of your CPanel when you log in. If the message is not there, please let us know and we will add it to your server.

How can you change your billing details? Well if you change your company name, or you wish for us to have another e-mail address for us to contact you on you can put in a ticket to our customer service department at the help desk and we'll get the information updated in our databases.

Now if you wish to change credit cards, or change the same information on the billing side of things, you will need to contact the company that processed your order for us (2checkout, paysystems or paypal) and change this information with them. It's that easy!

Sometimes the best way to find the answer to your questions is to search the TotalChoice Web Hosting Family Forums. Within the thousands of posts that find their home here it's more than likely that your not the first nor the last person to have that problem. So you approach the search link, and you freeze up. How do you search these forums? What does all this stuff mean? Critical Mass helps explain what each term means and what to do with it.

Search Keywords

Search by Keywords - Here is where you put your question. I would start simple and put the main words you are looking for. It will search for everything so if you use the word “and” it will show all posts with the word “and in them.

Filter by Member Name - You don’t need to use this unless you are looking for specific posts about your subject that were made by this member.

Search Options

Search Where? – What part of the forum are you looking for an answer in? If you are unsure where to look then I suggest it be left as “All Forums”. It would be a good idea to leave the check in the “Search in child forums if sub category is chosen” check box unless you are sure of the location.

Refine Search – This is the most overlooked option. Leaving the settings as is will limit your returns. Here is a breakdown of the four categories.

Search posts from… In the drop down box you have choices from Today to Any date and then radio buttons of newer and older. The default is 30 days ago and newer. To have the best chance of finding what you are looking for you may want to use “Any date”.

Sort results by… Here is how the results will be displayed. The default is Last Posting Date and Descending order. This gives you the newest to oldest post format. Again you have a drop down box to further refine your options.

Search Where? - There are two radio buttons here; “Search entire post” and “Search titles only”. The “Search entire post” option will look through the entire post to find a match for the keywords you chose. Using “Search titles only” will only look at the titles.

Result Type – You have two radio buttons here as well; “Show results as topics” and “Show results as posts”. “Show results as topics” displays the results much like it looks browsing the forums. It gives the title, what forum it is in, who started the topic and so on. “Show results as posts” gives you the entire post to read.

So you've purchased your hosting, got it set up, and your domain name has finally fully propagated after 24-72 hours of waiting. You're sitting on the edge of your set to create the be all and end all of web pages and.. now what?

First things first, you're going to need to get that page designed. Now you can do this by hand, or by a web page creator like CuteSITE Builder, Dreamweaver or FrontPage. This step is all up to you as the person or persons in charge of your site.

Now that you've got a site, how do you get it online? There are several different ways of getting this done, but I'll discuss two with you.

Upload via an FTP Client:

You can upload your site's content with a variety of different FTP Clients out there. All you need to do is set your preferences, connect, and with some its as easy as just dragging your files from your desktop into the folder of your choosing.

Upload via Cpanel's File Manager:

You may have already noticed the link inside your Cpanel to a thing called "File Manager". What is it? Well, think of it as a web-based FTP Client. Instead of running something on your machine you can just click the link, and upload your content online. Yes, it really is that simple!

When you login to a cpanel based hosting account (or FTP Client) for the first time, you'll probably end up noticing that the public_html and www directories have the same files in them and it will probably end up confusing you as to which one to use.

The answer?

Whichever one you like. The www directory is not a directory at all, but in reality a symbolic link. It works somewhat like a scifi warp. You click on it and you're warped into the public_html directory. Depending on what you're accessing the files with, it may retain the www name as the directory you're in, or it may show the actualy directory you're in (/public_html). Using either one will work the same way and you can even use the www when using paths in scripts if you like something that's shorter.

The basics are now done, and your site is officially online! Look at that, your site to end all sites is now online and the visitors are already starting to roll on in. Good for you!
